The piece was about moving bridges - but one bridge being moved was an unused railroad bridge in Kansas City. It crossed a double track mainline so during the filming of the show, there were many shots of freights - mostly BNSF. But there was an excellent shot of the Triple Crown.
Yeah some good shots but another one where disaster could happen at any second according the announcer like nobody knows what they are doing. And he had know idea how to pronounce Manitowac.
I just watched the program…thought it was very good, too. Sounds like the bridge is to be used as a pedestrian walk-way at the old KC Union Station. Does anyone know if it’s in use there yet? And I caught the mispronunciation of Manitowoc, also.
The bridge needed some structural repair and painting so the work was done in a parking lot north of Union Station. Over this last weekend the bridge was lifted onto piers over the transcon. The KC Star says the bridge should open in August sometime and its intended use is to connect Union Station / Crown Center with the Freight House district, an area with restaurants, bars, gallaries…but it should be an excellent place to get pictures and do some railfanning.
The program indicated that the movers needed to burn through three layers of metal and rust to get to the mounting pins – and rust is hard to burn through.
