Another interesting Ebay auction

http://toys.shop.ebay.com/items/Model-RR-Trains__W0QQ_sacatZ479[](http://cs.trains.com/trccs/forums/p/144631/1606164.aspx#1606164) This is for 10 sections of 10" real trax and from average of a few places I checked the price was about $3.29 each or $32.90 for 10 sections plus shipping and its about the same as this seller has for shipping so that equals out but when this post is being wrote the price was already up to $61.01 for 10 sections of track or about $6.10 each almost double is there a shortage on 10" real traxand we don’t know it lol

Just seems like what I call “ebuyers fever.” There are some out there that will outbid you for no reason but to win the contest.

Silly and expensive.

Ebay can be a seller’s paradise. There are an awful lot of uninformed buyers participating on Ebay. On the other hand, if you shop carefully, and have patience, there are plenty of bargains to be had.

I’m acually happy for the seller as I have bought off him a couple of times and I’ve seen him just about give something away many times so it good to see him get the revese also , I’m sure its not the first for him as he sell often on here as he owns a hobby shop in MD. but just how uninformed some folks are it seems or its an expensive game of lets see how high this guy will go and inch the bid up to see if the other guy will keep going.

Fixed Link Here.

It’s over $7.10 per section with shipping.

Around this time last year, I watched a single postwar O22 switch and three postwar UCS tracks sell for $120 some odd dollars.

Granted, considering the new MSRP of all of the parts, it was a good deal. Realistically, though, a PW O22 is worth $15-20, and I’ve never paid over $10 for a postwar UCS section.

I think that it might be the time of year.

The auction just ended. At least it didn’t go any higher! Like CW said, with a little patience some good deals can be had. Some of the post war steam engines I have been tracking are fetching some high dollar bids, must be in big demand.

I sometimes wonder if some schilling is going on because I noticed a few common as dirt MPC items with an outrageous current bid and a zillion bidders. No rhyme or reason to it.

I am a member of a rather large comic book forum & many members are continually amazed at the prices that some comic book issues bring at Ebay auctions. The prices are often so high that one possible explanation being mentioned is that the auctions are sometimes rigged by a well coordinated group in order to create an artificially high demand and then dump the comics at super-inflated prices. I am unaware of any proof of this, but it would certainly explain some things.

Recently I was bidding on an 60% complete postwar scout track set. This combined with items I had would make my set complete. This auction is set to close when I am at work so I decided to put in a max bid of $50.00 because it was well worth that to me. With 1 day left the leading bid is $25 and I am winning, there are 2 other bidders. To make a long story short, I won the auction but someone came in out of nowhere and with 5 seconds to go ran the bid up to $49.50…How they knew not to bid it any higher is beyond me!

Hi everyone, I am new to the forum so bear with me. My experience with e-bay has been all good. My items have been exactly as advertised at bargain prices (I thought so, my wife not so much). If you go into bid history, you can find out a lot about who bid when & how much. It is also possible to find out a fair amount of info about the bidders there. Be sure & bookmark the page so you can easily get back to it after the auction is over. (sorry if this is old news) I agree that e-bay buyers frequently pay too much. I also think e-bay has ruined the local auction circuit because people without knowledge bid way too high on anything that will sell on e-bay.

Totally agree … the ones where USED items go beyond new prices astound me !

E-bay is like a mine field with a real prize at the end. I have been after a 9522 baggage car for my Milwaukee passenger cars for a couple of years. They tend to go higher than any of the other cars in the set. I just put in a maximum bid I can live with (well below what they go for) and hope. A month and a half ago I got lucky and got the car for $2 below my maximum. A few weeks later I saw another 9522 go for ten dollars over my purchase price. There are a lot of factors that contribute to the insanity, but sometimes you almost think somebody has some inside information to extract the high bidders maximum! Nope, I am not into conspiracy theories, etc!
