Nice Boose, & Scenery!
Keep up the good work!
Thanks Chad.
Looks fantastic Paul
Dear Paul
Really nice scenery!
I love the contours, texture, and how you’ve placed your rocks.
I’m going to buy a hundred pounds of Ultracal 30 late this week or next week. It’s available from Daven’s in Atlanta for US$43.70. They don’t sell smaller quantities. Let me know if you want some. I’m tired of buying those half-gallon cartons of Hydrocal for US$10.

Really nice job! Is that part of a larger layout or a separate diorama? Just curious…
Thank you all! My son (14) and I did it. All we have left to do is put in the tall grass.
That is the Woodland Scenics Learning Kit, I think it was like $65 or $70 but worth every cent as it has taught us a LOT. We watched their video thay gave to an NMRA audience and learned a lot from it then went ahead and built it. We will finish it next weekend.
As soon as my mountain is finished I will do the same to it but it’s much larger and I have other ideas about what I’m gonna do. I’m gonna use Lou Sassi’s ideas from one of his books and use real trees and leaves. Actual real stuff, dried ouf course but only the trees in the background will have W/S foam on them. Since I like to hike through the forest where I live I’m gonna have hiking trails on my mountain.
I have the 18 piece W/S tree kit and it leaves a lot to be desired but you get what you pay for. I have to remove a lot of sprue castings on the armatures, paint them grayish, and then add the foam. But this time I’m not gonna use Hobby Tac, I’m gonna use hair spray.
Those books I bought sure do come in handy with ideas and how-to’s.
Thanks again fellas.
Paul
Hi Jaddie! Thanks for your kind words. As for the Ultracal, no thanks, I have plenty of Hydrocal and rocks I cast so I have no need for it but thanks for asking.
I never heard of Ultracal, is it similar to Hydrocal? Same working time? Does it dry harder? Is it workable when dry like Hydrocal castings are? Just curious.
Hope your layout is coming along well.
Best regards,
Paul
Dear Paul
I believe it has a longer working time. It doesn’t expand as much as Hydrocal as it sets up. It’s a little bit stronger.
Here’s a table of information about US Gypsum’s plasters.
I put about six hours into Max’s layout across yesterday and today. It’s coming along very slowly. I just put down some ground cover and am going to try to put down some foliage clusters this week.
Your railway is looking truly spectacular.

Paul, you are catching the hang of it! [8D]
Have you looked at the Woodland Super Trees?

Pretty cheap, box is around $20.00 and $15.00 for the ground foam and you will need some cheap hair spray. You can make around 80 trees.
Your friend Ken
Hi Ken,
Thanks. I haven’t even heard of those trees. I’ll have to give them a look.
Your layout looks great, wish I had that kind of room but unless I win the lottery I’m stuck with a small area.
Paul
