I left my first LEGACY remote at my LHS today to have them check it with Lionel Technical Support to find out why the middle column of buttons doesn’t work most of the time. I brought home a SECOND LEGACY system to hook up in the dining room and the batteries won’t charge!!
The manual does not list specifications for replacement rechargeable batteries. WIll any rechargeables be satisfactory?
There is a switch on the Legacy that will turn off the battery charger on the base…I don’t have one, but from what I have read in the manual, that MAY be the case. That button is under the cammand base. As for batteries, I would recommend something like the Energizer e-Lithium rechargable.
I thought of that but the button is set for recharging. If it isn’t, the lights indicating charging or not charging don’t light at all and I am getting either two solid red lights or both reds slowly blinking in unison.
Try unplugging the command base and turning off the control for a while. Then, turn it back on. If the lights blink extremely slow, it could just be really dead batteries. If it doesnt, replace the batteries with rechargeables.
Thanks to all for your suggestions. I bought a new set of rechargeables from Radio Shack today and everything did what it was supposed to do. The batteries that came with the unit were just duds. My LHS is sending my first handheld back to Michigan for repair of the non working center column of buttons. LHS was told two weeks turn around time from when they receive the unit. We shall see. Got down to level two today and cleared off most of the STUFF. Need to staple wires under level three, clean tracks on level two and decide which train to run there. I’m thinking the Acela set.
Glad to see that you are up and running. Even though there have been some issues with Legacy, I am still salivating as I wait to hear from my LHS for the arrival of my set.
You will be pleased. There is a learning curve involved when trying to read the manual. Do read it but also look at the series of Video clips that MartyE has posted. They make things seem obvious.
I have been laid up at home this week, so I have already read through the manual (its available on the Lionel website). I have also viewed Marty’s helpful clips (several times) [:P] Not having the system, I can already state that Lionel did not give a “A” effort on the manual. It is kind of disappointing because the guys in Orange and Blue are usually better about their documentation.
No sense complaining until I actually can start playing with it. [;)]
