Dateline Fort Wayne Indiana !!!
LHS Hobbyland on Coliseum Blvd west in Fort wayne Indiana closes it’s doors forever on Saturday August 25th, 2007 at the end of the business day.
Until then inventory is marked down 20% to 40 % .
It’s sad because it was the best LHS when it comes to trains!
Now were stuck with another LHS that still has inventory stock that has been setting on the shelves since the 1980’s, and HARDLY EVER gets anything new in.

Oh, well, who cares, the buys on the internet are so much cheaper than the LHS anyway.
Actually, K4Kid, it saddens me, when hobby shops close up and go away. I am one who believes the LHS is one of the best ways to pull new people into the hobby.
Went to mine twice this week, how about you? (spend money there each time too)

Hi Joe,
I was just in Hobbyland earlier on Thursday afternoon, took advantage of 20 to 40 % off on a few items.
True, the internet is making it a hard road to go for LHS’s. But then again, I always liked the personal service, and this one would usually match internet prices on some items.
Plus it was handy, you could get something the very day you needed it, and not have to wait for something to be shipped.
This particular LHS actually beat the best internet price on a Walthers 130 foot HO turntable .
But life goes on!
The other LHS just isn’t managed right, and has stock almost 30 years old still setting on its shelves.
Recently they finally maarked it down in price a little.

Yep it sure is sad when hobby shops close, we had one just 10 minutes from home close a while back, there is only about five hobby shops in the City of Brisbane (Pop 2 Million) that carry model railroad gear, three cater OK for N scale but HO is the big seller here in Australia.
I am finding the need to use online shops more and more, made my first purchase last night, the item I ordered has to come from Perth 4,000km away, also been hitting eBay pretty hard the last couple of weeks, I feel sure I will have to make online purchases from the USA in the not to distant future, what choice do I have, our LHS carry very little realy.
Talking to modellers at exhibitions I get the feeling lots of them are buying online, two reasons, they get what they need and they get it cheaper.
One example of how poor hobby shops are over here I phoned a hobby shop five minutes from home, they sell R/C cars, planes and boats, I asked if they sold Sheet Styrene, the reply was no we dont have any use for it, I travelled 35 mins to another shop to get it, no wonder some dont bother with LHS.
