I would think BNSF and NS would likely be approved. What do you think?[?]
I forgot about our neighbor line up North. The poll has been revised.

My money’s on CN + BNSF + KCS. Probably not all at once. IC already sniffed at KCS before the CN + IC merger, and KCS’ access to Mexico still makes it attractive. CN + BNSF - stopped by the STB moratorium on mergers of Class 1 railroads - is probably still a good fit, too. It’d create a railroad with two transcontinental routes, but to different markets.
Picture it! Direct container service from Halifax to San Francisco and Manzanillo! [8D]
i really dont wann see CN get swollowed by a US class 1, so i want them to stay safe
now CP…whom i dont care for…go for it
Think that no one is ready to swallow another or perhaps would need to be broken up after merger.
CSX and UP
CSX and BNSF
NS and UP
NS and BNSF
All sound pretty scary.
edited cause CN is not Conrail, and part of Conrail became CSX.
I don’t want to see any more mergers in a while, my vote for a strong partner is NS.
I think that is who controls the line through my town to Streator from the Steelmill at Hennepin. (formerly LTV mill)
I personaly don’t want any mergers to happen [:(!] Conrail CSX and NS was It For Me!! [banghead]
I am sick and tired of all these mergers, I am sure the STB is sick too. I not an expert about the business sense of what a merger does for better service but how about preventing monopolies. Didn’t they make Microsoft split up, or something, to prevent a monopoly?
I wish we still had the Pennsy and Espee!
MY money is on CN+BNSF+KCS because I have a fellen that they will merge in a like 2 or 3 yrs.
I think that NS and BNSF will be the next merger. They always seem to be sharing locomotives and some other stuff that would make them likely candidates.
Well CN and BNSF seem to share several Locomotives that can be said for NS and BNSF I’d like to see a Halifax to Los Angeles Transcontinental Line
The rumor is that BNSF and KCS are looking to merge. I’ve heard that the wheels are already in motion?
Amen Brother!!! ESPEE ESPEE ESPEE ESPEE !!!
I am Tristen Tokarchuk, I’m a locomotive mechanic for CN rail. Conrail is not a part of us. Conrail was a contracted partener company up until CSX took over Conrails corporate operations. since the Bnsf-cn meger went defunct ive heard rumors of CN eyin up CSX.
oh just for some news cn rail has took over operations of BC-RAIL
Up taking over CSX, I gaurantee it.
Hasn’t happened officially yet, the government is still yet to approve.
People at BC Rail aren’t to happy about it, lots of negative thoughts going around about CN. [}:)][}:)][}:)]
It’s too soon to tell.
I don’t think there will be any major mergers anytime soon.
A CN-BNSF-KCS merger would make a lot of sense. An expanded container terminal in Halifax could provide direct service Halifax-Los Angeles saving at least three days over container ships routed through New Jersey terminals. The Halifax terminal at present is one of the most cost efficient and fastest from ship to rail transfer in North America. Never mind that that combination would be able to serve Mexico directly as well. The combination could also provide a better land bridge than Halifax-Vancouver like Halifax Seattle or Tacoma. Vancouver is always a congested port with many ships waiting to enter. The container terminals in both Seattle and Tacoma operate at less than capacity and both are easily expandable. These three roads as merger partners would certainly change a great deal of overseas container business choice of ports. Halifax would literally save days from Jersey ports to and from Europe. Time will tell but that trio makes the most sense for a true super railroad something only dreamed of at the present. The Santa Fe main will be completely double tracked in a couple of more years and capacity can expand more at that time. remember double stacks can also operate over the the other BNSF lines as well and if necessary they can always utilize Montana Rail Link for excess capacity to the Nothwest. The KCS part would provide direct service from Mexico to the Pacific Northwest a long sought traffic corridor that only needs developing.
We are ALL on crack. And I mean that in the nicest possible way. Any merger involving any of the Big Six will not be approved by the STB in anything resembling the near future. And Canada is more anti-rail merger than the US is. Wead my wips: “No new moojooz.”
I think NS and BNSF. I am starting to see a lot of BNSF power on the NS.
