Last night, a young man apparently felt he could not wait for the approaching Trax (Salt Lake’s light rail) train to go by and started to drive around the two gates that were down across a street in South Salt Lake. He and his front seat passenger were both killed; the two passengers in the back seat were both hurt; how seriously they were hurt I do not know.
…seriously? Who is in such of a hurry that they can’t wait for a LIGHT RAIL train to go by?? A LIGHT RAIL train!!
…slaves to the clock. That’s who…
Slaves to the clock? It would only take a minute or two. I would put my money on testosterone.
More like a bad case of “lightusinthebrainusdepartmentus”.
A little more information, from this morning’s paper, concerning the hasty young man. All four occupants of the car were in management training for KFC, and perhaps were returning from eating in a KFC restaurant and observing how things were done there. They still had twenty minutes before training was to end for the day. The two backseat passengers are still in a hospital, in critical condition.

And the beat goes on, all across the country. What is with these stupid people?

This is a one year old child killed. Because his/her 34 year old aunt walked in front of a moving passenger train. Damn you woman.
Within the rail community, except for the parties directly involved, why is this even news. People on tracks = death or maiming. There never has been a matter of if, only a mtter of when.
My only question is how many people on average step in front of cars or trucks per day and how does that compare?. ie number of car miles / day vs number train miles / day?
Well, I wonder about that sometimes–
I wonder whether we need to remind people that there is an “Out There” out there. It’s almost as if there is not some kind of infantalism involved—in that–if I keep my eyes closed will anything exist outside of my little ol’ self
That’s almost worthy of a Wile E. Coyote cartoon. ![]()
