I would like to see some agriculture related photos. My layout will mainly consist of rural setting farms, feed mills etc. I would like to see what some of you have done in regards to this. Also the small town I am doing is sort of like a Mayberry setting, few structures one gas station, post office, store, church etc. Any pics of your small towns would be appreciated.
Here is my corn field with hunters and pheasants and my small town. There are LOTS of photos if you click the button in my signiture. I am a year away from scratch building the buildings to finish the model of the family farm as it looked in the 30’s
Art, that is awesome! Where did you get the hunter & pheasant figures at? How about the corn stubble how did you make that or was it a purchased item? One last question, where did you find the old pickup. Is this N scale or HO?
I don’t have good pictures but i’m about to do a rural scene in a corner of my layout of a plowed field. i’m going to take a piece of corrigated cardboard and carefully remove the top layer of paper exposing the corrigation. i’ll then glue it to the layout and then scenic it to look like a freshly plowed field. There are a couple of John Deere tractors on the market that are HO scale and i’ll put them in the scene with a barn nearby. i’ll build a fence from brass rod and wire strands, glue on some woodland scenics fine turf to simulate barbed wire and paint it a rust color. Another product out there are cornstalks made from brass that can be painted and planted in rows if you want to go that far.
Nice Chuck! I am planning to add a stockyard to my layout also. This would be together with a meat packaging plant. Working in N scale is bringing a lot of challenges finding the things I need.
I can’t offer any photos, but if you can imagine… A typical farm around these parts would consist of possibly a two story house near a farm to market road with a good size barn out back. A drive way would come into the property from the FM road and go straight back to the barn with the house facing the FM road and off to one side of the drive way. Out near the barn might be parked tractors, equipment, silos and/or feed storage vessles. There would be several big oak and/or pecan trees in the yard around the farm house. Behind the barn would be the fields of what ever they might be growing with a barbed wire fence around it all. One field off to the side might have cattle on it with a windmill and water tank. Of course let’s not forget the farmers person vehicles which are usually pick up trucks parked near the house.
Most small towns in Ontario have a Fair Grounds for the towns annual Fair. Lots of rides, a cattle show, tractor pulls, a plowing match etc can be found at them.
I do HO. The pickup is a Jordan model. The corn is the brass etched kit. The stubble is cut from a whist broom and planted one piece at a time. The plowed field is my version of ground goop with black paint and coarse saw dust. I pushed it in rows with a small artists knife.I made the pheasants from colored plastic clay. I made about 100 to get a dozen good ones. The hunters are army figures that are modified and repainted. This was a great project and took several weeks to invent.
