Another Newbie!

Just moved into a little place that has a marvelous 12x20 outbuilding that I have decided to make into my train shed (always wanted one). I remember from my kid days (more than) a few years ago that a train used to run past my grandfather’s place south of Montour Falls, NY probably up to Watkins Glen and then on up to Geneva. I believe it was a branch of the Leigh Valley but don’t know for sure and can not find a reference to it. I think I would kind of like to model this line, just for Gramps sake. Anybody familiar with this line and where might I find reference information ? Thanks,

Try looking on google for leigh valley or look for their historical assoc. Welcome to the hobby.

Without raining on your parade too much, you’ll need to take weather into consideration concerning your “shed.” I checked your profile for your location, but you didn’t list one so I’m in the dark as to where you are. You need to be aware that extreme fluctuations of temperature can be “challenging” to tracks, structures and rolling stock, especially if the temperatures are really hot, like Texas hot.

So keep an eye on temperature fluctuations and temperature maintance for your shed.

The area (size of the shed) you describe sounds great. Since you don’t mention scale, I assume you are an HO’re. You have a number of options for planning a layout in that area, including multiple decks.

I look forward to hearing more about your layout and what you plan to do with it.
