Another noted Model Railroader dies

Has anyone else noticed on the news that the late Tom Snyder (talk show host and newsman) was a model railroader. They said that “Unbelieveably he was also a model train fan”.

Doug

Wonder why thats so unbelievable?

That’s exactly what I thought, too. Seems like he would be the perfect candidate to be a model railroader.

Brian Williams on the NBC nightly news last night also said he had written a book about model railroading–anyone know about/or have read it?

Google “Tom Snyder model railroad” Ken

That’s too bad. I just heard Paul Harvey say that Tom turned 71 a few days ago. Didn’t say anything about his passing. I still remember that interview he did with Charles Manson in prison.

Come on Charlie, come down off your spaceship. Come back down to Earth Charlie.[:D] That was classic!

Seems as though he did a couple of videos and had quite a layout

In 1975 Tom Snyder did one of his shows on a CNJ steam trip from Raritan to Bay Head, N.J.

Below is a link to a video hosted by Mr. Snyder…

One of the great talk show host…Use to watch him on the Late Late Show on CBS…Cox 47

Wow-news to me. NBC back in the 70’s had:(which a good bunch of you remember)

the “Today” show in the morning,

the “Tonight” show (with Johnny of course)

the “Tomorrow” show with Tom. Neat concept, & I had no idea he was a model railroader. Dan Akroyd (sp?) did an excellent imitation of him on Saturday Night Live. (then again Dan did excellent imitations of several celebrities.)

He was a Lionel guy. He showed a piece or 2 on the show back in the 70’s, I also remember him talking about model trains with Gary Coleman. As a nite owl I always appreciated the banter and good entertainment in the late night, working on some mr project.

I’ve missed him since he went off the air. I always wished I could get a tan like his. rip.

Tom would talk trains occasionally on his radio show, in fact I remember one night a caller played steam loco sounds over the phone and Tom just listened. Now that’s great radio. [:)][tup]

I’ve got a one hour video that I recorded off of RFD about a year ago where Mr.Snyder was talking about Lionel trains. I sure am sorry that he passed away…

I used to watch him. Good guy.

Tom Snyder was one of the few news personalities that I liked! He was honest and straight forward, and I liked the way he presented himself and his interviews were alwasy insightfull!

Sad day indeed! He will be sorely missed!

Thoughts and condolences to his family and friends!

That’s cuz he didn’t wear a vest full of patches and have spagetti stains on his shirt like the typical train nut. [swg]

(Jesting, of course … but it is true people somehow think those in so-called “offbeat” pursuits should somehow look different from the rest of the human race … people that “look normal” don’t do that kind of stuff, right?)

Yes, it is sad to hear he has passed on – he was one of the good ones.

I’m behind…didn’t even know he had died.
