I finished a kitbash last night, in which, I took a Roundhouse 4-4-0, and turned it into a 2-4-2 cabforward. The Coyote Gulch and Quahog didn’t turn it around to keep the engineers from asphixiating in tunnels, there’s only going to be one on the layout and it’s going to be very short. They’re tesing it to see if it will help improve visibility and hopefully reduce the number of grade crossing accidents. I’m not sure if there’s an actual prototype for it, but I’m sure it would be one heck of a conversation starter.
Another unique piece of equipment to the CG&Q is the Roundhouse 50 foot combine with a cupola on top. It’s purpose is for branchline service where mixed freights are common. It’s the thinking of management by combining a caboose and a passenger car, that it will be one more car not needed on the end of the train.
