Another Quake near U.P. main line

At 10.30 am, pdt, today a 5.3 quake hit 14 miles west of Calexico 3.4 miles deep. I wonder what this will do to the traffic on the UP Sunset Route for the next few hours? As it is in the same area as the last quake will they do an in depth inspection or just a cursory evaluation? I guess time will tell.

You can bet your sweet bippy that the hirailers are out in force. What happens next depends on what they find.

I imagine the inspectors will do an in depth evaluation of the tracks. The damage potential of an earthquake depends on the ground motion in the vicinity of the track which in turn depends on the distance of the track from the epicenter of the earthquake and the magnitude of the earthquake.
