In my experience, the Kadees are the only couplers that will reliably work with delayed uncoupling (I fitted the delayed magnets at the start of all sidings on my layout as that allows me to spot cars anywhere). Bachmann’s effort sometimes works ok (as on the three diesel locos of theirs I have) but is usually a pain in that the centring spring is not as effective as the Kadee one. You can adjust the Bachmann ones by bending the spring “tines” but it’s not worth the effort to my mind, the Kadees look a lot nicer (they look like greased metal rather than brown plastic) and work superbly when properly adjusted. Any Kadee coupler can use the delayed uncoupling function, the crucial part is the magnets. Hope this is of help!
I hope someone can answer my question about Kadee couplers. Which # couplers are best for locomotives? Also, is there one that better clears snow plows than others? I have a kadee (don’t remember what number–maybe a 5) on a GP38-2 loco and it barely clears the plow.
Thanks for help.

The simplest answer is to go to Kadee’s website (http://www.kadee.com/), and click on ‘Conversion Info’ in the menu on the left side. That’ll take you to pages and pages and pages of info on which Kadee couplers go with what locos, rolling stock, etc.
Thanks. I give it a shot.

Dave,
It is cool. Awhile back, Sam chimed in on my topic on the close coupling conversion
of my P2K E6A/B. It’s nice to see manufacturers taking the time to touch base with
us modelers. Dave
