Here’s a cudos to the Bachmann Service Department. My dcc and sound 2-8-0 Connie was sent to Service for a full replacement. It was signed for on February 15th. I sent it Priority mail with a signature confirmation for tracking. I called on March 19th just to check the status and was greeted very nicely and was given my customer ID number. I was told it would be a few more weeks, and to give them a call in mid-April if I had not heard from them. Surprise, surprise. I recieved my new Connie yesterday afternoon.
I am thrilled. It’s going to be very hard to get me not to buy another product from them with service that good.
A truer statement never said. they still make sub-par stuff. I didn’t know you could send stuff back to them for replacement. Oh well, that loco has now been scattered around my room. Never ran, anyway…
I feel a bit dumb to answer you. The front wheels were not turning and actually wore a flat spot in them before I noticed. I know, I know. Rookie. But I’m learning and Bachmann was fantastic. I called them and they had me to ship it back to them, no questions asked for a full replacement. Took a couple of weeks, but I had no clue what the problem was. Live and learn…
Reason I asked, was because I don’t understand why folks give kudos to a company for replacing a product that was defective to begin with. The very least they should do.
Don’t know if that was the case here, hence the question
I had just tuned up an N-scale Spectrum Dash 8-40, add MT couplers and it was just running so sweet. I was very pleased, it was running circles around my new Atlas Locos.
I decided to do one more small detail and I dropped it and broke an axel. [soapbox]
I sent Bachmann an email and they shipped me two new trucks within a week. I actually had forgot about it because I figured it would take forever and then the mailman knocked on my door with a box. I was total surprised. [:D]The only thing that would have made me happier is if Ed Macmann was tagging along with a check from Publishers Clearing House.
My self, I have had good luck with Bachmann quality. Lest see, I have 2 GS-4’s and around 15 of there silver series rolling stock. So far I have not had any problems with them.
On the other hand, I have 4 engines in for repairs from a well, known manufacture that engines cost well over $300.00 and up. (1 cost $600.00) Dollar for dollar Bachmann is hard to beat.
Am I being cynical to think that there are some people out there who like to beat up on certain manufacturers and products because it somehow makes them look like they are more discerning than the rest of us?
I too have had great experience with Bachmann. I bought a Northern mfg in the 70’s on e-barf. It ran about a week and failed to run ever again. I contacted Bachmann and they told me the unit was so old they did no have parts for it and would replace the unit for $15.00. I had installed a decoder and asked if I should remove it before shipping my old unit. Jenn told me that for another $15 they could send me one DCC equipped! $30.00 for a brand new 4-8-4? You bet! Sign me up! I recieved my replacement unit 3 weeks after mailing my dead one!
I broke some parts in a couple of 25 year old Bach locos I have. (my fault) Didn’t have part #'s and they weren’t made anymore. Talked to Tom in the repair dept. He pulled them off some old units he had in the shop and sent them to me for free in about 5 days. [tup][tup]
Your better off to talk to the guys in the shop than the ladies on the phone. They only know part #'s.
