Another Self Portrait, or When Do You Model?

Inspired by the wonderful self portraits posted in last weekend’s WPF, I set the timer on my camera and sat down to show myself hard at work on my latest project. Unfortunately, the timer was set for too long (10 seconds) so by the time the shutter clicked this is what I got

The problem is that my modeling time only comes at night after the kids are in bed and other pressing tasks have been addressed, usually after 10:00 or so. It’s tough doing finer modeling when your eyes are blurry, your fingers aren’t quite so nimble, and the brain doesn’t focus quite so easily. The depicted scene is how many an evening ends up for me. Does anybody else face this sort of dilemma? When do you get to spend your quality train time?

Jim

Well, at least that pose.

Well I work some strange hours. I let the family know I am working on the train on a certain day and I usually get the whole day. That’s the only way I get anything done. You just have to make the time and dam the torpedoes. I’ll do the chores when I’m tired but I won’t work on the train when I’m tired. So I will try and start a day off working on the train knowing full well I’ll be doing house duties at the end of the day.

I found the ideal time for me…From 1:00pm to 4:00pm 5 days a week some times 6.So,I am modeling or researching 15-18 hours a week.

Put the kids to bed earlier?

Lately, 5:45 am to 6:15 am. IOWs, after I get up and get ready for work, but before I leave to go outside to feed the pooch and head to work. Some in the evening but that sometimes get meet with disapproving by SWMBO.

Well being a pilot there is never a dediated time or day to work on anything let alone train stuff. But my time is when my wife is at work and I am at home all day. But that is after yard work and remodeling work. Sometimes I get up at 6 am and work on train stuff till about 10 am then fill the day with the chores. It works so far…

For me it’s after dark and on rainy weekend days in the summer. In the winter after work, I do my housekeeping (I’m single), take care of any chores (oil changes, household repairs, etc.), then get into train stuff; winter weekends are pretty much trains all day long and I’m usually out on a date in the evening (occasionally my social life encroaches on my train time - the things we do for love).

When I feel like it, which could be anytime between 12:00 am to 12:00 am.
