Another "Special Scheme" bites the dust...

For those those of us who didn’t know, NS 3329 in now in the NS “horse head” scheme. The ex “Maresk” unit suffered minor damage a while back and when repaired lost it’s one of a kind paint to fall into the sea of black locomotives. There was one other “Maresk” unit (I think I spelling that right) that belonged to Santafe, but I believe it too is gone. Oh well, something else I guess I’ll never see. Just thought I’d pass it along.

But NS has the Southern heritage GP59 and executive F-units!

In the early 1990s, ATSF painted a GP60M #146 in the Maersk colors, though it was only temporary and quickly painted back into red/silver warbonnet. In 2002, BNSF painted a soon-to-be retired SDF40P into Maersk colors, about the same time as the NS SD40-2. It’s interesting that BNSF and NS chose older EMD 40 series locos for the Maersk colors, and not a couple of brand new GEs.

The BNSF Maersk SDP40F is still running, believe it or not, in the Maersk scheme. So the scheme hasn’t quite bit the dust yet, but all the lettering has been marked out. IIRC the same people who saved F40 231 bought it. http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=230320&nseq=2
