A newly restored train ride will be starting service in Ellsworth, ME on July 31. It runs on the former Maine Central tracks that went from Bangor to Calais and was abandoned in 1985. They have ALCO S-4 and GE 70 Ton locomotives, and about 4-1/2 miles of restored track. The 70-Ton came from Belfast & Mooshead Lake RR that went bust a few years ago; I do not know where they found the S-4

If you are headed for Maine and like to ride old trains, this is worth a look! [:D]
Thanks for the news
I may be going to Maine & New Hampshire in 2011 to Visit Relatives .
That might be a fun train ride .
Sincerely

Thanks for the info. We may be up that way in September.
Ellsworth is the “gateway to Bar Harbor” and Acadia National Park. It’s a beautiful area for camping, hiking, canoeing and particularly mountain biking (of the more serene variety.)
Have you tried riding on the horse paths in Acadia? They have done a lot of work in the past couple of years trimmimg trees to improve and restore the scenic vistas. [8D]
Another new group is the Brooks Preservation Socieity which have purchased the some of the Belfast & Mooshead Lake RR equipment that another group that had failed in Unity. They have the remaining B&ML RR 70 Ton locos as well as a number of passenger cars and other equipment. They are located on rte 7, North of Belfast ME and have also recently started running trips.
