Today,a UP freight train derailed in Industry,CA. A tank car was reportedly leaking propyline glycol, but it is now stopped. Both main lines are closed. The line should be open late tomorrow or the next day.
Propylene glycol is not dangerous. Almost all topical lotions, medicines, moisturizers, etc. have it.
This derailment did not make the news in the Lower SE [:o)]
Someone should have told that to the panicing people that ran out of the Home Depot next to the tracks. Of coure given my knowledge of the dangerous chemicals often hauled by the RR’s If I was there I too would have boogied out of there pronto! [;)]
They’ve been covering it in the news around here. For the out-of-town railfans more info can be found at http://nbc4.tv/traffic/4264388/detail.htm
Does anyone know the cause of the derailment? It appears there is a switch burried underneath the derailed cars. Could it have been the problem?
Got to love UP, a derailment at least every 2 weeks. Any bets on when it’llbe 1 a week?
If UP derails a car of non-hazardous material there will be 6 threads and helicopters covering it. Last week the BNSF had a derailment blocking 3 main lines and 2 hump leads, involving hazmat with a fuel spill, shutting down a major terminal and there wasn’t peep one on any of the lists.
