I finaly went to Omaha today. And as I pulled up,no more than five minuts later. Amtrak arrives.
Anyone know why the Train was so late?
How much did the trip cost you in gas?

Oh. You were the one who started the thread about “Railfanning and Very High Gas Prices,” so I interpreted that to mean you did care.
I got this e-mail regarding #6 from www.drgw.ws regarding the matter:
“Amtrak 6 was running 7+ hours late yesterday by the time it was in Colorado. When running on time, Amtrak arrives into DUT right around 7pm. Yesterday, however, the ETA into town was 2am! Amtrak even lost additional time from that original estimate (given at 9pm), as Amtrak passed through Plain (receiving a crew change) right at 2am. Don’t think it made it into DUT until 2:45am.”
I’m not sure why it was running that late into Denver, but from my travels on Amtrak, I’ve learned that once a train get 3+ hours late, there’s no reversing it, and in fact it often loses more time (as it did at the Plain siding).
BTW…one man’s junk is another man’s treasure…so watch what you say about those ATSF units! [swg]

He lives in Blair NE so it was sought of like a trip within his own backyard. Mapquest says 35 miles each way so maybe $10.00 using 20 or so MTG car

The way the freight railroads treat Amtrak and their own troubles if they arrive within 3 hours they are on time.

Gentlemen! My goodness - It is only Monday and we are sitting on a rock pile already.
As you all know, I live in Lincoln where Amtrak is scheduled through around 5 am going east. It came in Sat at almost noon!
What makes me nervous is that it is due at 5 am eastbound and about 1 am westbound. And on the same track. We are taking bets on when and where they will meet face-to-face. [:)]
May I make just one suggestion here Mr. BNSFrailfan…MORE FIBER IN YOUR DIET.

Goodness, I thought all Amtrak delays were because of UP’s arrogance and poor management? That is, if you follow the logic offered on most boards.
As I have offered elsewhere time and again, to speculate what and why, is just that speculations. If you think you can do better, hire on and show them how it is done. Or better yet, buy the railroad and then you can dictate how things should be. If you choose the latter, I put big money the shareholders string you up from a very tall tree in Omaha, Ft. Worth, Jacksonville or Roanoke after a year or two.
By the way Allen, if you hate UP so much, why are you living in Blair where they are the only horse in town?
