Another way to spread the word

[:D] I have recently volunteered to act as Cubmaster for my son’s Cub Scout Pack, and while browsing our local Scout Council store, I stumbled upon another way that one could help spread the word about our great hobby–Boy Scouts have the opportunity to earn a merit badge in railroading!! By registering as a Railroading Merit Badge Counselor, I hope that I will soon have the chance to share my hobby and railroading knowledge with other Scout Packs and/or Troops. Who knows??—I may be able to convince one of those young boys to put aside their gameboy for awhile, and open up a model locomotive kit!!

I used to be a Boy scout and was in the process of getting that merit badge.

I think that’s a great idea, and a wonderful opportunity.

Congratulations

Ed

My the troop I eagled from and the one i’m assistant scoutmaster too is planning on doing that merit badge this year. I’ll start teaching it in the spring, then to fini***he merit badge wwill bee a trip to Altoona. Those who knew I went there this summer, well now wyou know onee of the reasons. I’m totally excited about it. one of the scouts and i were discussing our layout a couple weeks ago. Should be fun.

Whan a friends son was a Cub about 10 years ago he was Railroading Merit Badge Coordinator. He and I helped each boy built an 2’ x 4’ HO module. We showed them techniques and advise, but the boy did the work themselves . The wood for the modules which was donated.

I earned that merit badge myself 30 years ago![:D]
5 years ago when my boys joined Scouts I volunteered to be a merit badge counseler. 5 years now, and not 1 call yet[V].

Unfortunately this is not a badge available in Canada. However I have used my layout and work shop so that my Cubs were able to knock off several requirements for badges and awards. This will be the first year in several I won’t be running a pack. But I’m still the AAC Pack for my area as well as a Scout Leader.

There will be cubs and Scouts visiting the layout this winter!

Regards
Fergie

PS I just wish more people like yourself would take the time to volunteer as we are in desperate need for new leaders

Hey kbfcsme,

Expect my call in the morning!

I wanted to get that merit badge when I was a kid, but they told me they didn’t have a counselor for it, so I was never able to get it.

A few years ago myself and a couple of my friends volunteered to help local scouts get theirs, and my friends stil do this every year. I hinted around to the guy running the thing that I couldn’t get mine when I was a scout and I should get one now to make up for it by helping others get theirs. He didn’t take the hint, so I still never received one.
