Ok thanks for those who help with the other wheelset question. Can you remove wheels of wheelsets you order and the on other axles. I need to get new wheels but I don’t need the axles.
Yes, it Can be done… Northwest Shortline (NWSL) makes a tool specifically for this, called, The Puller… It’s a bit of a pain to use but it does work. I read your other thread and the question I have to ask, is it worth it?? You might almost be better off finding a junker loco to replace your wheelsets…
Good luck,
Jeff
Are the wheelsets glued? If they what kind glue. Could you some sort of glue thinner? I s there a such thing?
Thanks
Couldn’t tell you… I’ve never owned a Model Power loco (or many cars for that matter)… Most wheel sets I’ve ever taken apart though were pressed on… How tight they are will depend on the fit… I have rivarossi wheel sets from passenger cars (newer) that are near impossible to get apart or adjust… That would be great if they were in gauge but they weren’t so the solution was to replace them… If the wheels in question have flush axles, that is they don’t protrude beyond the face of the wheel, they should be pretty easy to get apart. If they have a pointed axle sticking out they may be somewhat more difficult and the point on the axle may be destroyed in the process. The way the puller works is it’s basically a screw with a steel pin in the end of it… You basically, with the puller, hold the wheel in place (and flat) while pressing the axle out of it… It’s an operation you May be able to do with a hammer and punch… Be careful though, some older wheels are sometimes brittle and can break when undue force is applied… As I said though, I’ve never owned a Model Power loco so all my advice and typing may be worthless to you…
Good luck anyway,
Jeff
