my Conrail system has as many engines in the to be repaired as the real one was in 75/76.I hear Anthearn was aquired by someone who plans to produce no parts ect.is there any one whom I can aquire full unpowered frames and hand rails from.

As far as I know they should still be carrying parts. As long as they still make it they still will be able to get parts. I just might take longer. Athearn has one of the costumer service department out there. Go to www.athearn.com and check out the parts section. Find the number for the part(s) you need and give the parts department a call. They are always willing to help.

It has been my experience to be able to get parts for almost anything at hobby shops that advertise that they also fix trains. The parts may cost slightly more by doing it this way, but when I weigh the waiting time there is by ordering them from athern or somewhere on the internet against paying slightly more and being able to get them instantly, paying slightly more for them will win out every time. This is especially true if when they send you a part and then it turns out to be the wrong one, then you have to go through the process of sending it back and waiting again for them to send the right one.
To me, the slightly higher cost is worth not having to go through that aggrivation. There have also been a few times that when I went to buy a few parts from the hobby shop, that the proprietor just gave me the parts free, as it was his way of saying thank you for all the business that I had done with him. This was even better. Sort of like having my cake and eating it too. [:D]

I just e-mailed Athearn a few days ago. Many parts are still available, however, while the parts are cheap the shipping charge is expensive (either $5 or $7) which is ridiculous.
I’m in a situation now where I need various parts yet they only total about $4. Since no hobby shop here has the boxcar underframes and locomotive parts that I need, I don’t have much of a choice.
Go to Athearn’s website. Click on parts. A long list will pop up. select carefully the ones you want. Write them down, click on their e-mail icon and ask them if the parts you wrote down are available.
