Anthem of the railroad hobby

What song would you pick to be the anthem of the hobby?

My 2 personal favorites are “City of New Orleans” and “Wabash Cannonball” when the trains are running, and “Wreck of the old 97” when they aren’t[:)][:)]

“Crazy Train” by Ozzy
“Locomotive Breath” by Jethro Tull
“Southern Pacific” by Neil Young
“The Hammer Song” by Spencer Davis Group
(Workin’ on the railroad, for a dollar a day…)

Shiny Town Station Theme Song

“Long Train Runnin’” from the Doobie Brothers

or

“Train, Train” by Blackfoot

Dale

Buckeye has a great video with “Green Light on the Southern Southern Railroad Line”. That will get your toe to tapping. [:D]

“City of New Orleans”

Chief:

Where did Buckeye post it?

“City of New Orleans” by Arlo Guthrie. Maybe the “Rock Island Line” by Lonnie Donnagan.

guilfordrr, you’ll have to email me.

How about the Orange Blossom Special? Though it has no words it is a great tune. If we have to have words then In agree with those who took The City Of New Orleans. “This train’s got the dissappearin’ railroad blues”

I guess Willpick and I have the same taste in railroad music. Wabash Cannonball came to mind when I first read the topic. City of New orleans was in the back of my mind.

night time in the switchin’ yard by warren zevon!

I like “Right Track, Wrong Train” by the Confederate Railroad and ELO’s “Last Train To London”.

So…what’s wrong with “I been working on the railroad?” Why replace a classic!

Anthem of the railroad hobby?!
EASY!
Pink Floyd, “Money”
'Specially with that intro…[;)]

all the aforementioned songs are good anthems for the “railroading” hobby, but, for the “Model” railroading hobby, my pick would be “I love toy trains” the theme song from the TM videos series by Jim Coffey.[2c]

It’s gotta be the Orange Blossom Special, but I’d strongly recommend NOT running your trains while playing it. It ould be too tempting to run them at full throttle in time to the music. Definitely NOT the song for doing some shunting in the railyards.
