I was wondering if any of the many Athearn Genesis F7s in the Santa Fe freight scheme (blue+yellow, and preferably the Cigar band nose herald) come with Soundtrax Tsunami sound?
I know the earlier units had MRC sound decoders. I have a few of the earlier passenger F3s that have MRC sound decoders.
I’m looking to add some freight units but want them to have the newer Tsunami sound.
So are there any out there? If not then I’ll be awaiting their next release.
No, I dont think there’s any in the Santa Fe freight scheme with Tsunami yet , but you can pickup a non sound unit fairly cheap and add the Tsunami board yourself. Thats what my friend did and it sounds great!! As soon as I can affort it , I’ll be replacing my stock MRC decoders for Tsunami also.
That’s what I plan to do for my F3s as well. I wonder if the MRC speaker will work with Tsunami?
And I didn’t even think about using the non sound unit and putting in my own Tsunami sound. That will work, just have to find some non sound locos now…most seem to be long out of stock.
It should, they are both 8 ohms. and the MRC speaker has a 2 watt rating compared to the Tsunami’s decoders 1.

They do as I have used them with Tsunami’s.
I know the mrc speaker will work, I just installed a Tsunami AT1000 into a C-Liner using a MRC speaker. You’ll have to cut off the MRC’s speakers plug and solder the red wire to the S+ and the black to the S-
A while back now I got hold of a couple of Genesis F3’s in Pen Central paint, I stripped them down, removed a small amount of metal from the chassis, added 2 Tsunami’s and one of these http://www.dccsupplies.com/shop/product_info.php?cPath=98_108&products_id=790 in each of the A & B unit and they sound absolutely superb.
Im not sure how your $$ prices work out but in the case of the £, it works out the same to get your own non-sound unit and add your board and speaker seperately.

Bass reflex speakers do help a bunch with diesel sounds. I have some for my Athearn Amtrak P42s (used on a different layout then our Santa Fe one) and the sound output is impressive. I added Loksound decoders to the P42s as these sound decoders allow you to upload custom sounds. No other board (at the time) had appropriate Amtrak sounds so I needed the upload feature to customize to my liking.
But the Soundtraxx 567 sound is great for a Santa Fe F unit (they even have the proper horn sound file for single chime or the later multi chime).
