Colin, did all CN cabooses have oil burning stoves? I picked up one from each era plus a couple extra ones with the CNR Maple Leaf logo so I don’t want to change the smokestacks if I don’t have to.
You can add me to the list of CN ‘patriots’ - I have a small shelf layout, belong to a large N scale club - (and hope to form an additional new more local club). You can check out some of my CN roster pics in my signature.
TA462: My guess is that the earlier ones had coal burning stoves and were later fitted with oil burners as they were shopped for regular repairs and upgrades over time. The later units would have come out of the building shops with oil burning stoves in place.
I guess I qualify, since CN acquired the WCL, GTW and ICRR. Throw in DMIR, B&LE and soon, the EJ&E, and there is quite a bit of CNR trackage in the U.S. these days. I model the Wisconsin Central and live between CN’s Orion Spur (former GTW Cass City Sub) and MP 290 on CN’s Flint Sub. I do most of my railfanning on the latter - nice depot in town with a few cabooses on display on the old house track behind the station. Amtrak also stops their twice a day - #364-365 Bluewater Service - and the little LIRR (Lapeer Industrial RR) runs their little GE centercab down the old NYC south of town to the CN interchange.
I’m saving to pick up a pair of the new Kato CNIC SD40-2s, but already have some ACR and WC units on the roster (all Kato HO scale). Need an AMTK F40 to run with the Kato Superliners I’ve been slowly collecting too. Besides all of my WCL-oriented rolling stock that’s pretty much all I need for my medium-sized layout; trying not to be a collector and I know there’s no way I can keep up with H. Harrison’s prototypical pace of acquisitions.
You found one that model northeastern seaboard w/CN, CV, Green Mountain Rail, etc. I’m looking for a CV switcher, so far no luck but the Eastern Train Expo in Springfield MA is coming up soon. I cannot open your pictures. Andre in Gardner MA
As were all CN modelers here maybee you guys can help me out, i’m ready to piant some of my custom locomotives right now into CN colours, black and white are easy but what should i be ussing for the red/orange? will probably mix my own but are there any good starting points?

If you’re going to paint diesels in the striped scheme, the white stripes are actually light grey. I did the stripes with Floquil paint, making the light grey by adding just enough black to make pure white “not-so-white”. For the cab, I used SMP Accupaint AP-17, CN Orange.
