Just another locomotive to buy.
They`re still using that white crap they call plastic.
Grats to the modern crowd.
My wallet’s safe. I’m saving up for the Genesis D&RGW GP40-2’s due end of summer anyway. Probably the only thing Athearn could announce which I would be interested in is a Genesis Southern Pacific SD40 to compliment my SD45’s and tunnel motors, or an Amtrak SDP40F. I’m all pre-1991 so all these giant wide cabs are too new for me.
I do like EMD locomotives but I don’t like widecabs… I’ll be saving up for the IC&E GP40-2s rather than the SD70M.
Having built a custom sd70m phase II in NS from an older Athearn Genesis, I can tell you that they are extremely well done. To build one of those custom. Ran me about $180 when you throw in the cost of the model, sound decoder, LEDs, and detail parts, and paint. Whlie I’d be hard pressed to call finding one of these at $210 a bargain (mrsp minus discount) I would say its reasonable when you consider building one yourself costs.
I’m very impressed by it and will be picking up a copy. I’d also like to get a Flag version of the UP model when those are produced.

The flag models will be produced and can be reserved. Nice looking model.

Ditto on the SDP40F! And when it derails we can point out that this was the prototypical operating characteristics![:D]
Take care, Ed
sweet! Saw that they added those to the Athearn website.
The SD70 announcement also includes four versions of the CN/IC “Spartan cab” SD70I. I’m sure at least one of them will make it to my layout…
