ANY CREATIVE FOLKS OUT THERE?

Would like a little creative help with a paint scheme for my RR. Premise is a modern day logging/short line, similar to CanFor and Crown Zellerbach (CZ). Primary motive power is SW’s and MP’s, maybe a SD7/9 or too, as I plan on having an ore dock. Will have caboosssesss of course. [^]

Givens and Druthers:

  1. I would prefer a simpler scheme, but, not married to the idea. Canfor’s is simple, but a little boring. CZ’s is okay, but, the stripes will be a challenge. (See #2 below…)

  2. I have an airbrush. I have minimal skills with said airbrush, but, I got one! [:D]

  3. The basic yellow and black like Canfor was my first choice, but, curious if anybody out there has any other ideas. DM&IR colors are a good choice, so is only one color. (Again, I refer you to #2 above…)

  4. Don’t have a name set in stone. Location, likely to be the Upper Peninsula of Michigan/Eastern Minnesota. No herald yet. (Help with that will be a future post![:I])

  5. RR will be connected to, maybe subsidiary of, Great Northern. But, even though I love it, I really don’t want to tackle the EB scheme. (Remember #2 above?)

All ideas appreciated! And I hope all of you have a great Christmas season, and you get everything on your railroading list!!

If this is an industrial/logging RR, try a base color of EB ORANGE. Use decals, etc for safety stripes (black or white) [:O] You should be able to see those lokies com’in & goin’.!!

Here is something Unique.

Based on some GN colors.

have the main body be Big Sky Blue, with the top and frame Glacier Green. I would have to check agasint some of my SWs, but if you make the parting line at the bottom edge of the window on the cab, I think It would make a nice balance.

Let me play around on my computer a bit. I may be able to develop a logo.

James.

I mentioned this on another thread, but one of my favorite Class II railroad paint schemes is that of the Arizona and California! Looks sharp and yet simple.

Go to this link to check out some really good photos: www.railpictures.net
In the blank “Key Word” box just type in Arizona and California and hit “Find the Photos”.

10-4!

rocky: Sounds like we have something in common. Little experience with an airbrush. Looking for a scheme, huh!. That’s what I’ve just done. The best way is to experiment with one. Here is a link to some locos to use. This is where I got the loco in the picture. I did mine in the computer program “paint”.

Here is a picture of my scheme and logo. Both are subject to change…

Just use your favorite colors. As for a logo. How about a circle with trees inside, then, your RR name around the outside surrounded by another circle. I invision something similar to the GN logo. It sounds kinda complicated. Hope this gets you started. Need help, just send me an e-mail, and I’ll be glad to help you.

Robert

RDL: Thanks for the web site!! I had this in my favorites before, but when my 'puter crashed (teenagers and music download software) I lost the link.

FP45/Big Sky/randy: Thanks for the ideas. I’m gonna try to get my paint program to work right (and that would be due to user error, I’m sure) and see what happens.

Hey Rocky Goat - a few thoughts (and you’re keeping me up late for this, I might add)

you’ve got the railroad logging theme… now, (and I’m either thinking out of the box here, or not clear on the concept[:D]) — why not create a unique yet simple LOGO and PAINT SCHEME for your own Railroad ?
Although my experience in Illinois is limited - I have visited Chicago, the U of C, and the transportation museum, I’m not sure what your community is like AND I acknowledge that since I haven’t checked your profile yet, I know nothing about your occupation (are you a goat farmer by chance ???) location, personality, preferences, interests, or ideas about realism, proto types… the point is to have fun and enjoy your hobby. So, with that said,

how about … ???

rr name ---- Givens & Druthers Railroad (G&D) with a G&D logging camp, G&D mill

logo ---- a basic Mountain Goat head (characature) with the rr name beside, under, around it; another option here might be a mountain goat hoof-print with the name; or perhaps the name in the shape of the hoof-print… (internet has great links…)
I suggest you don’t get too elaborate, even in the real world a simple logo works (Golden Arches is a classic example), and in the model rr world everything is tiny.
The more basic design and colour scheme (2-3 max colours), keeps the costs down when you need to order labels, lettering, letterhead for your Christmas letters…
pick your own colours - who else would care ??? - besides, black and white might be too boring for you

In my case, the CAST-AWAY Railroad (name describes how I’ve collected all the model rr stuff and incorporates the initials of all family members); is my favourite two colour - green (land) and blue (water), the logo will be either a “c-a” combo, or a palm tree on a tiny island [(-D]

I might think of something else later, but for now Enjoy, I’m grabbing some zzzzzzzzz’s

a great example —

Probably unlikely to appear on any logging road equipment, but…
any way you could work in Rocky thge Goat, carrying an axe and wearing a lumberjack’s plaid shirt?
