Being a former resident of hysterical Rochester I miss seeing the big long SD40-2 DM&E engines go through town. Any other DM&E fans on here?
Idon’t know about “fans”, but there are those who are interested in the line and its sister, the ICE.
You could count me as a DM&E fan. Although their trackage does not run through Sioux Falls, South Dakota, their dispatchers work out of a building in downtown Sioux Falls. Same goes for the DM&E’s sister road, the ICE. And I once toured the DM&E’s ex-Chicago & Northwestern roundhouse up in Huron, South Dakota.

I am also a fan of theDM&E and I live in IL. Any RR with the guts period to propose to build a 600 mile line to connect into the PRB has one hell of a CEO. Of course once this is built the DM&E will be the shortest lived class one out there someone for sure will buy them out. We are probaly going to see KCS or CP buy them out of maybe all 3 merge.
Absolutely. I am a huge fan of the DME. I enjoy watching a hard working railroad that is on the leading edge of railroad development. Those guys are really thinking forward and I applaud them for doing so. I hope they suceed in the PRB project. And their engines have a great paint job!
Maybe DM&E will buy out CP or KCS! [:-,]
I’m a huge IC&E fan, and since ICE and DME are almost the same railroad I like DME too. I too hope this PRB project goes through OK, I can’t wait to see those coal trains flying through!
Naw. The DME/ICE will buy out the DMIR and then un-merge the MILW out of the CP to make the physical connection.[}:)] Then you could have both coal and iron ore loading into Lake boats. Maybe build a steel mill in WY and haul loaded trains E and W iron ore west and then load coal into the return moves.
Maybe the DME will aspire even farther than that and buy the old MILW RD PCE ROW. That would be amazing!
Somehow I don’t think CN would go for that!
I also enjoy the blue and yellow railroads, I hope their expansion plans go well and they acquire other railroads! It would be nice to see more of the regional “can-do” attitude spread to some of the behemoth Class 1s!
I don’t know much about the railroad except for articles I read a while back, but I admired the way they made something out of a cast off line and made a viable railroad. My model railroad is actually loosely based on the DM&E.
