Any good places to get used stuff?

Hey, Im a very low budget N scaler and I’m just wondering if anybody knows of any good sites to buy used N scale equipment, track, rolling stock, locomotives, etc.

-Thanks!

(PS. I already know about Ebay, anything besides it? )

Train shows and yard sales.

Craigs List?

We have model railroad flea markets twice a year. This is an excellent place to get damaged retail kit boxes, ready built structures, automotive and railroad cars, etc. Ask your LHS for brochures on upcoming flea markets, or suggestions as to where you can obtain N scale RR material “cheap”. Bob

I’ve found (locally) Craigslist to be useless for model railroading, great if you want about anything else…which I don’t.

Maybe in some areas the modellers use it, but not here.

I’ve seen used stuff at train shows and flea markets. But be careful. A lot of it isn’t worth what is being asked for it.

See if your local hobby shop has mailings, coupons, sales, etc. I’ve gotten good new stuff at prices similar to what I’ve seen for used taking advantage of these special deals. I got a gift certificate for $10 (no strings attached) the other day from the hobby shop I frequent. Needless to say, I went in and got a bargain on a turntable motor for the Atlas turntable–cost me approx. $10 + tax.

Craigs list was a stab - I’ve never looked for train stuff there, but know almost everything else is there. The Greenburg Expos and Great American Train Shows often have discounted/used stuff, but know what you’re looking for & what it’s worth before going!![:)]

eeeeeeebay?

Mike

You did not put your location in your profile, but if you are in Denver the YIMR gang is having their big annual sale of used stuff tomorrow.

From my local CraigsList: A Brass HO Scale FEF 4-8-4.

I know a few guys who have had good luck with Craig’s List. But it is very hit or miss… well mostly miss. But its free to look and you might get lucky.

www.nscalesupply.com has a preowned section of their website that usually has good used locomotives, rolling stock, and structures.

Both Trainworld (www.trainworld.com) and M.B. Klein (www.modeltrainstuff.com) feature what they call “blowout” items. These are typically out-of-production models that they’ve bought from the original manufacturers or from wholesalers who wanted to unload their inventory. Trainworld also buys multi-page ads in MR if you have a copy handy.

Shop carefully, and you can find some real bargains. Why settle for a used engine, when you can get a brand new one for the same price?
