Atlas made a model of the NJT ALP44 a few years back. You should probably be able to find one without much trouble (VERY nice model). The new ALP46’s can be kit bashed from a ROCO class 101 (?) electric. IHP produces a model of the NJT GP40PH as well as Arrow I electric MU’s.
The problem with NJT models is they are a very regional carrier, whose choice of equipment is not shared by other roads. Translation: Not much of a chance of getting mass-produced models.
NJT paint schemes are some of the EASIEST to do. The disco stripes are easy to mask and airbrush, so are the rest of the body (solid silver and solid black). After that, just apply the NJT herald, lettering and numbering from a Microscale set, and you are done.
Then there are these NJT E8s. These are former Penn Central/PRR units. All you’d have to do is, letter them for PC,and go nuts on weathering. Many units had their porthole windows plated over.
Walthers and Bachmann have done their HO F40PH’s in NJT colors. Atlas did their U34CH in NJT colors. Walthers also did their commuter coaches and cab-cars in NJT colors.
Imperial Hobby Products makes a resin shell and custom frame for the GP40FH. Go to this link, click on “Products”, then on “HO Locomotives”. They’ve got some other cool transit stuff. http://ihphobby.tripod.com/
What is wrong with this thread that makes it run off the right hand side of the screen???
Anyway I have three NJT locomotives that I just bought because they were cheap and I have them in my “repaint pile”.
I believe they are an Atlas GP7 an F7, and ummm ummm something else. Unfortunately, if you are interested, I think they are in the bottom of the storage unit…
With all due respect, Mike, if you’d read all the above messages carefully, you’d see that most if not all of the common NJT locomotives and cars are available, many of them painted for NJT. And the stuff that’s not available in exact form is not that terribly hard to kitbash and/or detail and paint.
I don’t mean to sound like a grumpy old man, but if you want to model a railroad where everything they own is readily available, turn your attention to Santa Fe or Union Pacific. But instead of whining, dust off your modelling skills and with a little work and perseverence, some very nice NJT stuff is not hard to have.
Rivarossi did their E8 in NJT colors not long ago. Life Like’s E8 is a fine model and not hard to paint in NJT, nor would the leased former-CNW F7’s (lotsa folks make F7’s). The only diesels that would be really nasty would be the ex-CNJ GP40P’s…but not impossible.
You might also check back issues of Railroad Model Craftsman for a series of articles by Frank Cicero on modelling the various versions of the Pullman Standard/Bombardier Comet coaches and cab cars, as well as U34CH diesels and ALP44 & E60CH electrics, all in glorious NJT colors.
