I’m not sure if this has been done yet or at least a thread of this nature, but here we go.
I would like to see somebody produce a BN F unit executive set in N scale like BN 1 and BN 2. I know HO scale has a set already which I plan on purchasing one for my uncle in georgia who also runs the BN.
thanks my youtube links are acting so weird lately, I also forgot I’d like to see some two tone Green NP F units in N scale I’ve scoured and scoured, can’t find any [:S]
“Any locomotive or rolling stock and scheme that hasn’t been produced that you would like to see.”
No.
I’d much prefer to build/modify/paint my own. What’s the point in doing this kind of work if everybody and his brother can simply buy the same thing right off the shelf? [(-D][banghead][(-D][banghead][(-D]
this isn’t limited to diesels, yeah I posted the GP20D in there. I was watching the vid and thought why can’t they have the exec. F’s in N scale. I can paint but not scratchbuild, or kitbash.
I don’t believe the SW1200 has been done in D&RGW switcher scheme yet.
I’d also like to see Athearn Genesis offer the phase I D&RGW single stripe F7’s which pulled the California Zephyr in the final years.
D&RGW F7 #5571 was an F7 that was rebuilt as a result of a wreck in the 1950’s and EMD used an F9 carbody to restore it so the sides are F9 style but the roof is still F7A all the way (36’ dynamic brake fan). It was retired in 1969 IIRC. This F7A would be a no brainer for Athearn since they did a similar unit already, F3A #5531. This was an F3A rebuilt to an F9m around 1953 by EMD - it looks like an F9A from the sides, but has the roof of an F3A - Athearn Genesis offered this in 4-stripe and single stripe - I bought the single stripe as seen here:
The F7A #5571 would look very much like the above diesel except the roof details would be all F7 and the numbers on the number board. Since the Highliner shell is modular, it is easy to apply the correct combination of parts to match various rebuilt F units and offer them!
D&RGW F7#5574 from the same original F7ABBA set as the above loco pulled the California Zephyr until the CZ was discontinued in March 1970. #5574 was a standard phase I F7 painted in single stripe paint around 1965/66 and after the D&RGW F3’s were retired at the end of 1965, became one of the D&RGW pool F units to pull the CZ, and by the late 1960’s the pool of F7’s was getting smaller so #5574 was used most of the time. In the last year or two, it sported F3 style tall roof fans, which must have been swapped out during a shopping around 1969.
FYI, the following D&RGW F7 sets were outfitted with steam generators in the B units and had controls to regulate them:
A B&O P6 pacific. I’ve made a few attempts at kitbashing one, but with the manufacturers now getting more diverse, I’d rather just buy one. If Bachmann can make an EM1, a very nice model by the way, why not a P6?
Pretty much anything pre 1906 is few and far between.
I would like Athearn/Roundhouse to make some additonal shells for their 36 ft underframe, such as a St Charles door boxcar (plug door), a left opening door boxcar, a high sided gon, a low sided gon.
Then do some plainer, more common lettering for eastern roads in multi-packs for the 36 ft cars (B&O, N&W, PRR, LV, C&O, NYC&HR, ERIE, CNJ, WAB, L&N, ETV&G, etc). They have been doing a wonderful job of creating accurate schemes on cars, they just tend to pick really obscure roads or roads with really small fleets for the majority of their offerings.
A camelback boiler that would fit either the Bachman 4-4-0 or 4-6-0 series or the Roundhouse 2-8-0, 4-4-0, 2-6-0 mechanisms would be waaaay cool.
If you go to the 3D printing site, shapeways.com, someone is making an N-scale SW1shell, but they haven’t decided what to power it with yet. I would try the Tomytec or Kato powered chassis. It is not for sale yet.
I think the Nacionales de Mexico QR-1 4-8-4 Niagara would be very welcomed not only by Mexicans but also by many other steam or 4-8-4 fans as well, since they were the last 4-8-4´s on the North American continent in use.
