Any news yet on CP's locomotive rebuild plans?

With the recent change in management, has there been any news about CP’s plan to rebuild/refurbish it’s SD40-2 fleet?

It would be a bit early to speculate about what would be a major program since the new management has not been in place for that long. At any rate, CP has a pending order for GP22ECO/GP32ECO (I’m not sure which) based on traded-in GP9’s.

That isn’t quite right. They have an order that Progress is working on for GP20c-ECOs (GP22ECO0)based on GP7/9 trade ins (though they’re new from the ground up) and they have an order for 500 SD30c-ECOs (SD32ECO) based on SD40s.

These contracts have been in place for months. I doubt new management would affect them in any way…or, I should say, it would be a major news item if they did. The contracts have been signed.

And the OP is right, it’s about time for some ones to start peaking out from the paint booth.

Anyway, poking around the web, it looks like the first units should be delivered in September.

Thanks for the info. I have been asking about this exact subject at work and knowbody knows anything about it.

Well if they are being done in Mayfield, I wish the CP luck. The units we got back from them at Metra have been less than stellar. Majority of the engineers arent real thrilled with them on the lines I run on.

Only 25 GP22ECOs and 30 SD32ECOs were firm orders, the rest were CP’s plan. Good chance the plan will change, but to cancel the firm orders would cost money.
