Do any of you here have an Athearn N Scale FP45 w/DCC & Sound? How would you rate the sound quality?
If you ask me all N-Scale sound is fantastic . . . . . . . . . . if you are interested in half-a-dozen quarter inch ball bearings swishing around in the bottom of an old Maxwell House metal coffee can. I haven’t heard one of these but, unless significant progress has been made since my last encounter with N-Scale sound, with half-a-dozen beers under your belt and a fertile imagination I’m sure that the sound eminating from Athearn’s FP45 will sound just like the sound eminating from EMD’s FP45.
I don’t know about the FP45, but a friend of mine has a trio of the BLI E-8’s and they sound fantasitic. Loud enough to hear accross the room. I would think that the Athearn FP45 would sound just as good.
Here’s a vid of an N-scale one:

Have to say it’s not as impressive as the HO one, but in the future N scale sound may catch up.
Look through MR Express. Month or two back MR did a review of the SF version, had a video of it. I plan to get one for the daul-gauge tripple-track around-the-room display track loop I’m designing for the living room but that’s another post I need to write up yet this morning.
Nope, sorry, impossible. The laws of physics prevent such an event.

I agree. Unless one goes into some kind of headphone/Soundtraxx based system there is no way that one is going to get that quality of sound out of an N scale loco—tiny speaker=squeek.
