Hey guys, I haven’t posted in a while. It seems like I’m the only one here that models Conrail, does anyone else here model the same railroad?
I use to have a couple Conrails when I modeled the PRR that I ran. The blue conrail locomotives are very nice looking. The only thing that I have left is a PennCentral F9ABA set my dad bought for me many years ago that I will never part with. I may buy a GP35 Conrail just to have around. The conrails ran through my area.
I’d like to get a Kato Conrail SD80MAC. Best looking modern diesel, IMO. It would be part of my “modern” fleet, seeing as Conrail wasn’t around in the 40s and 50s, the period I model.
i model conrail in n scale. mostly with gp 20’s gp 38’s gp 7’s & rs 11’s. i have some sw 1500’s that don’t run very well. i am also using rs1’s and f 7’s decorated for the nyc that will still be handling passenger service. my layout is running around the room on a modular shelf layout similar to one track and i have just added another 15 ft of benchwork for it this weekend.
Good to hear from anouther Conrail modeler. I model Conrail from 1998 to the end. I live 1 mile from the mainline about 30 miles east of Pittsburgh. Still see a lot of renumbered Conrail units. I used to be able to get lots of video and measurements for modeling but since NS took over, the rail police are everywhere. If your not already a member I suggest joining Yahoo Groups-Conrail Modeler Gary Taylor
I model the Conrail Lowgrade line from Driftwood to East Brady, PA in the 1975 to 85 time period. I used the 1984 CR ZTS maps to do a historical representation the line as close as I could within the limitations of my 25’ x 75’ basement.
We are using Digitrax Radio DCC control and the layout has over 2600 feet of track.
We have OPTUD (Op Till U Drop) sessions twice a year and run from 9:00am to 9:00pm. Have had 40 operators on the system during some sessions.

I model Conrail dougal!!! Right before CSX took them over I have a couple of Conrail trains running on my layout
I model an interchange between Conrail and my own industrial/mining railroad. The private railroad’s roster is made up of first generation diesels bought from Conrail and repainted, and CR helps out with some old, beat up GP38-2’s.
Nice, new, shiny road units that make their scheduled stops provide quite the contrast to the grimy industrial engines.

I am once in awhile, I have a half finished Conrail SD40-2R on the bench, probabaly 6996,
RPP shell/frame, Cannon Cab , shortened Athearn SD40-2 Nose (dealer was out of the Cannon nose kits) , New radiator grilles and a few other mods, just waiting for me to dig my airbrush back out and get painting.
I have a few other Conrail projects on my list too. An SD38/MT4 set for one… They were fixtures at Stanley the last few years of CR
I am in the planning stage of building a switching layout based on
Conrail in 75-76 with all the seeds of Conrail as Penn Central ect still
around as few engines are in Conrail blue.I have other railroads for
connection or lease.I scratch built a T-6 and rebuilt a SW-1 with new
handrails.I got twelve C-628 with two powered.
May God bless and guide our nations
as the spirit of the Lord guides our leaders.

I model NS/CSX fromt the late 90’s to present, so I have a reasonable amount of Conrail in the mix. (With all the recent run through engines I have just about everyroad name represented and usually a picture to justifiy it LOL.)
PS: I’m still trying to make one of those CR MT-4 slugs. Perhaps I’ll get to it over Christmas, but first I’d like to get those NS tie only cars kitbashed!
I’m working on doing the same…
Wow, there are more Conrail modelers here than I thought! Here are a few of my Conrail models (in both N and HO scale):
That B40-8 (Conrailish for Dash 8-40B) is owned by a freind.
I have a few shots of them (this one is post-merger, note the NS patch)
I still see a lot of Conrail locos, too bad NS and CSX patched everything (exept for the SD70’s):
I have over a thousand more Conrail photos (from 1994 to 1999, and the 1999- “patch jobs”).
Yes, I am a member of the CR Modeler Yahoo Group.
I’m not modelling Conrail, but I do have a pair of GP-15-1s in Conrail Blue. I’m modelling Safe Handling Rail Inc. They leased units from Locomotive Leasing Partners LLC(LLPX), which are former Conrail units. As a matter of fact, you can see the Conrail lettering in places where the Conrail Blue cover-up paint is peeling off. Enjoy!!
