Any other desert model railroads out there?

I used to model the B&O with nice trees and grass everywhere but now I model the Nevada-California desert. I am curious if there are others that model the desert. do you have pictures or a website?

I do, along with a scratch-built western ghost town. Mine is at http://members.cox.net/cacole2 along with our club HO scale layout and my back yard G-scale layout.

Hi Nevin

This fellow is modeling Nevada to the foothills of the Sierras, a very nice MRR IMHO. Be sure to check all of his galleries.

Socalz44 takes Z scale to another level, here.

Not sure what era you are looking for but Pelle Soeeborg from Denmark has done some pretty awesome modern stuff.

There’s an Aussie exhibition layout that’s called Arid Australia. It’s just the tracks and a little scenery either side, but they have attempted the longest model train world record a few times. The Pilbara region that is modeled has some of the longest iron ore trains in the world. You’ll see some classic US diesels on it. As most of inland Oz is desert, it is very representative of the land downunder.

See some pictures here.

Just started on a layout that is in the Nevada-California area myself. I am still on trackwork, so it will not be done anytime soon. I hope to have a good part of it dome for the monroe, wisconsin train show this september.

That Goldfield and Hangtown is a nice model railroad. Is there a track plan of it anywhere? - Nevin

Nevin

I have never seen a trackplan, you may try to e-mail Wallace from his website.

Holy Tamolli!! I thought I was looking at shots from a Pentrex DVD! Dang, he’s good!

I agree, his modeling is more modern than my interests, but he has really nailed the mohave desert appearance. - Nevin

I am working on modeling the deserts of my native southwest Wyoming. Its going ok, but I have having problems finding anything that resembles Sagebrush in HO Scale. Also, the Local industry is Natural Gas development, and nobody seems to make and HO scale modern drilling rig, so I will have to scratch build.

I model Santa Fe, and at one time, that meant modeling generic desert scenes.

A 30" x 40" desert layout built in 10 days for a display.

Another Aussie desert layout you could look at would be “Barcoola” shown in the following pages
