I received an N-Scale LL/Walthers Proto C-Liner A&B unit (Milwaukee Road) as a Christmas gift, and I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations/suggestions on a DCC decoder for it. The specs state it is split-frame, DCC ready with isolated motor, and I believe it is plug & play for a drop in decoder (have not taken the shell off yet), but I have not seen any decoders that are specifically made for it. I looked on the Digitrax web site and didn’t see anything specific to this model.
Does anyone have any experience with the n scale Proto units that could point me in the right direction?
Thanks!
Two suggestions, though I do not have a specific solution to your question.
-
If it is plug & play ready as you believe, take a look at the circuit board and compare it against DCC replacement boards at the various manufacturers web sites as each decoder usually has a picture and the dimensions listed.

If the current circuit board has a DCC plug, you may be able to find a Z or N scale decoder to fit following the same procedure as described above.
If you have other Life-Like models with decoders, I would start there for possible answers to your question. Most manufacturers reuse the same control boards as a means to control costs.
Happy hunting!
