I would love to have a U23C in Burlington Route’s pre-merger Cascade Green scheme. Did anyone ever put out any U23Cs in HO Scale?
Atlas made a U23B in HO, but it’s discontinued. I recently snagged a new pair, different road numbers no less, for $59 each. They’re probably still around, but you’ll have to do some hunting.
There was an article in MR about kitbashing a u23C from a U-30C , searching the mag. index may find it for you.
Apologies it in RMC

If you have the mag , It was a Dremel kitbash award winner.
You can also check Ebay regularly for out of production Atlas units. They do show up and many are in new or in very good condition. Always check the sellers feedback record!
I wanted an Atlas SCL U36C and was going to bid on one on Ebay. I then saw that the seller was HOBBY CIRCLE in New York. Many customers reported that they had a lot of problems in the past with this dealer, so I decided to pass on it.
Less than 2 weeks later another brand new SCL U36C showed up on Ebay from a different seller with a good record. I won the bid for $50! Sweet deal considering that the unit nomallly retailed for $110
When I checked Atlas’s site, they have a new production run of their U23B, due out in 9/06
Brass only, but some are not expensive; likely candidate for an Atlas U-C chassis.
The Atlas U-23B was never discontinued. Atlas has just anounced a new run with new paint schemes: http://www.atlasrr.com/HOLoco/hou23b4.htm
Hi, I’m from the Netherlands and I am making one from an Atlas U30C and U23B shell, both from ebay usa. With my limited knowledge of these locomotives I have used most of the center part of the U23B shell and both head and tail of the U30C shell. I don’t mind if a hatch or grille is not right. It should at least look like one in the Burlington Experimental scheme but I thought it would be too easy to just repaint a U30C. The idea was triggered by the P2K SD45’s in this scheme which I really like.
The cut at the other side is straight down from the cut in the roof.
Good luck with building yours!
PS. the U30C was 55$, the U23B shell 7bucks.
PS2. the Hobby Circle experience has cost me 163$ but I still have to find out what to get for that… stay away as far as you can from these guys.
