Anybody do this?

I started building my layout about 3 months ago before I really thought anything about DCC. I went to a show Saturday and talked to a few clubs that were using DCC and was so impressed I’ve decided to totally rip apart my layout and start over. I’ve come up with a few ideas that I saw at the show that I want to include so I just had to do it. I got home from work last night and down it came. Strange, I actually feel good about it. Almost everything is salvageable so all I really did was waste time.[:D]

Doing things right is never a waste of time. Even if it means tearing out and doing over.

TA,

You didn’t waste your time! You deserve a hearty salute! [4:-)][tup]

You did the one thing many modelers don’t do and later wind up with regrets:
[1]Your layout was still not complete.
[2] You discovered something that really interested you and found beneficial.
[3] Instead of “settling for what you already had” you went ahead made the hard effort and started fresh!

You knew that if you didn’t you definitely would have winded up stuck with a railroad that you would not have been satified with and the annoying question pondering in your head would have been “Why didn’t I just go ahead and redo it while I could have?!”

I’ve heard and read too many stories in which modelers have basically said “I wish I would have done this!” or “I should have gone ahead and fixed before I laid the track down!”

You did it right!

Cheers and High Greens on you Mainline!

A few months ago ( about a year now that i think about it ) I did the samw thing, and now my layout is bigger and better eveb though all that is don is some of the roadbed.

Definately not a waste of time. I bet the second time you’ve noticed your skills improving. That’s the joy of this hobby. If something isn’t making you happy (and how can you tell until you do it?) you just redo it.

Redoing a whole layout? Look what Tony Koester did. His basement sized layout was as about complete as you can get - he tore it out and is building a new one. From reading his columns he’s having a blast doing it too. Being in the same company as Tony ain’t bad!!
