I ran across a vendor I hadn’t seen before in Timonium today. The company is Peace Vallye Scale Models (www.peacevalleyscalemodels.com). They make a few nice looking resin kits like this one:
They seem very nice buy pricey. Does anyone have any experience with these and would you recommend them?
This is a new manufacturer to me. Too bad you didn’t look inside a kit box to see the various parts or scan the instructions when you were at the vendor’s table. They don’t look difficult to build, but I don’t know what your modeling experience is. To me, one’s skill in finishing the surface of the models will be the most critical.
Mark hit the nail on the head. My experience with plastic is that you have to be VERY good at painting/weathering for the model to turn out well. From the looks of the post, someone did a knockout job on the brickwork and a heck of a job on the weathering of everything!! What was the price - one man’s idea of expensive is another’s idea of cheap!! (I tend to be on the cheap side!!) [%-)]
The model’s description at the manufacturer’s website says that many of the parts are cast resin. This is a type of plastic but it has “tooth” to it which “takes” paints better than most plastics. If it is like most craftsman kits, there will be detailed instructions on finisihing the model’s surfaces. If you don’t hear anything more definitive from future contributers to this thread, you should inquire with the manufacturer if he could provide you with a copy of the kit’s instructions if you aren’t willing to take the risk of first buying the kit. Many craftsman kits have very detailed instructions. The last I acquired had over 60 pages, not necessarily because of the difficulty, but because of the detailed instructions describing techniques. So, perhaps you might just ask for the portion of the instructions on how to finish the model’s surface (covering painting, weathering, etc.)
