Any thoughts on this engine. DC or DCC.
Your question’s a bit vague, but I’ll try. These 2-10-2s are generally accepted as decent locos for the price. They are rather generic, even if well detailed. The Vanderbilt tenders, on the models that have them are pretty odd, with the rear of the fuel section being square (not sloped), and extending as such down all the way to the bottom, instead of having part of the round water tank under the fuel. I’d opt for the rectangular tender if possible.
They run pretty decently. I have one, (Premier Series) on DC. Respectably smooth and quiet. Mine’s lettered for Erie, with that Vanderbilt. Couldn’t tell you about the UP labeled one, (if available).
The rods, at least on mine, (valve gear) are blackened, something that looks far better than shiny nickel or chrome plated. Like most Mehanos, it’s rather light on it’s feet.
The new ones just released include SF and the UP. How easy is it to add DCC and sound?
David,
The IHC 2-10-2 has a NMRA 8 pin socket in the tender. TCS has complete instructions on their website site.
The ‘real’ question is if the model is being manufactured anymore. I did not see it the last time I looked at the IHC of Texas web site. Your best bet may be eBay…

Last time I checked, Trainworld/Trainland had some IHC/Mehano stuff listed on their website, although they are running out of a few locomotives. They had the 2-6-0, 4-8-2, and GG1 I think.
