if you have one or had one how does it perform? Does it run smooth and quiet?
Any problems that I should be aware of?
thanks,
Dave

I don’t have one, but I do have both old and new Rivarossi steam engines. The retooled version with a central motor, flywheel, and small flanges was reviewed by MRR, and they gave it high marks for details and running quality. I think the only problem was that there weren’t enough electrical pickups, so you have to keep the track and wheels clean or add more pickup wipers. My 2-6-6-6 uses pretty much the same chassis, and it’s one of the best running steam engines I’ve ever owned.
The older 4-8-4 uses a large motor in the cab with a dual gearbox drive, and with some tuning, it can be a nice runner. I’ve worked on a lot of these drives and can usually get them running very well.
Good to hear.
I’ve been poking around at the newer versions with motor in the boiler.
Most folks give them good marks from what I’ve read as well.
But alas, I am cut off until projects underway are completed and kits to be built are caught up as well.
I have the gray one. A little noisy but nice. Stored in it’s box for the past 10 years. Actually would like to sell to reduce my collection of stuff I never use.
Just recieved one I bought on eBay at a great price. It runs smooth and quiet. Very well detailed and the motor is in the boiler. I do need a bulb for the headlight.
I’ll admit, as much as I like Rivarossi (old and new), their lights are pretty bad. A lot of them are so dim you can barely see them when they’re working. I’d use a better 12V mini bulb from Miniatronics to get that headlight working again.
I use Miniatronics constant lighting kits. They work great!
