Does anybody know if any of the manufacturers out there make a Baldwin 2-8-0? I know Aristocraft has one in the works, or so they say, but has anybody made one in the past or is currently producing one? I’m looking to model the San Diego and Arizona Eastern #104 with as little kitbashing as possible, but will do some work if i have to. Any information would be appreciated, thanks everybody!

Bachmann Spectrum makes a narrow gauge (1:20.3) version of a Baldwin 2-8-0. I have one and it runs very well. I have installed an AirWire900 wireless DCC system and SoundTraxx Sierra sound system into it and run it on battery power.
I run mine on track power and I love it. I read on this forum a few horror stories about the gearboxes, wiring and wheel counter weights falling off but I’ve had no problem at all, plus I bought it when Bachmann reduced their prices (at least in the UK) and it cost me £250ish rather than £380ish. A very good loco.

Yeah I knew about Bachmann’s Baldwin, but I was wondering if anybody made a standard gauge Baldwin 2-8-0, the narrow gauge would be a bit difficult to kitbash without tearing the whole thing apart, seeing as how I am not that experienced with that sort of thing yet, but I haven’t been able to find anything else out there.
No one as yet makes a 2-8-0 standard gauge, though I’d be tempted to think you could start with one of Aristocraft’s 2-8-2s and go from there. At least you’d have a complete drive train, though you’d have to build everything above that. Alternatively, you could get a “Barry’s Big Trains” 2-8-0 drive for a Bachmann 4-6-0 and start from there. Either way, you’re in for a fair bit of modeling to get what you’re after. Not that that’s a bad thing, but if you were looking for a “shake the box” kind of thing, you’re out of luck.

Aristocraft does have a very nice looking standard guage 2-8-0 (if the spy reports are correct) but its gonna be at least a year before it would be released. Its supposedly modeled on a B&O model E-27
