The Fox TV Network is showing a spot for their ‘Prison Break’ series to be shown tonight at 7 PM CST. Four police cars are sitting on the tracks in a V formation. The ad quickly jumps to a shot of a diesel engine crashing through something and it’s hard to tell what the debris is from, but whatever it was didn’t hinder it much.
The four police cars are not identical; hopefully for whoever picks up the tab for these stunts, they’re repainted wrecks. The heaviest car I ever owned was a 1960 Dodge station wagon, 4800 pounds costing 4800 dollars. Those were the days!!
So about maybe 8 tons of cars are expected to stop a moving diesel that weighs considerably more? Somebody needs a brain check or maybe they’ve just watched too many ‘reality’ shows. I’ve got it scheduled (DirecTV) to be recorded just to see what kind of idiots planned this.
Paraphrasing an old Supt. when told a town would block a crossing with a firetruck to allow a hastilly planned (as in last minute) and day long civic event to take place:

Yes. 4 police cars will block a railroad track from snowmobiles pretty good. I don’t think a snowmobile can go against 4 police cars if it was made out of plutonium.
I was on the City of New Orleans one morning,when we went THROUGH an aluminum van trailer loaded with cardboard.The force of the collision rose the front several cars of the train about a foot up in the air for about 2-3 hundred feet before landing hard back on the rails.It was a good thing this happened on straight track!The trailer was demolished,and the front of the F40 was bashed in.We had two units,to the lead loco was set out and we continued with the remaining unit.
