Anyone else having really sloooooow forum response?

I noticed it yesterday (Friday 4/27) afternoon, and this morning it seems really slow. It is to the point just trying to call up a new thread can take over a minute. Posting, well I can go get a cup of coffee and come back before it does. Is this something everyone is experiencing or is it just the route from them to me? Other sites I hit like e-bay seem to be responding fine.

TZ, most definitely there have been days, not recently, when only this site seemed to have turned to cold crankcase oil. I didn’t have any hang-ups yesterday that I can recall, and today has been good.

Sorry you are having “issues” (dontcha luv that word?)

It happens periodically even with a high-speed cable modem connection. Sometimes the connection times out with an error message and I have to log off and retry later. I’m not sure if the problem is with Kalmbach’s server or their ISP, but since the service is free I guess we can’t complain too loudly.

It seems worst when I try to post something. I’ve got dial-up, and I ain’t springing for high speed.

This forum does seem to slow down from time to time for me as well… although since it is the end of the term and 1500 other people are trying to do all that last minute research for their finals might have some bearing on the lag for me…

Had something similar, yesterday. I’ve got my password locked onto the computer, but the Forum still insisted that I log in. Logged in and it put me on some strange page where I couldn’t get off to find out if I’d actually BEEN logged in. Cleared that by signing off and re-logging, but then I could have gone out and cooked dinner waiting to pop onto the forum itself.

Happens once in a blue moon–and I’ve got Broadband. Ah, computers–interesting little things, aren’t they?

I notice that the threads with banner ads take 15 sec or more to load - no other sites I hit take that long. (have DSL connection)[?][xx(]

I have no such problem. Everythings moving lightning quick for me. I’m on a cable hookup with 5 megabyte download speed.

[1] I only joined this forum after ditching dial-up ISP for a DSL ISP due to page-load speed.

[2] Under a dial-up ISP - good luck trying to download a forum PDF article all the way to completion.

[3] I always copy a forum reply (like this instance) before I hit the “post” button due to how the forum server literally “will hang-up in mid-air” every once in a while and “eat your post.”

The fact of the matter is that once you learn how this forum works in the background - you can make the adjustments for browsing this website just as you make adjustments to view any other website.

For example while using Firefox browser, there can be a need to view “a getting smaller number of websites” only with Micro$oft Internet Explorer, because their webmaster feels obligated to follow M$ proprietary html standards rather than global html standards. You will find this forum does not believe in a M$ - resistance is futile - mantra, and; global html standards are followed at this forum.

Thus, you learn how each website works and choose to use it accordingly.

I for one, am grateful to Kalmbach for providing this forum.

My load speed is OK, but I’ve been having problems with IE 6.0. Somewhere, somehow, something got “updated”, but now when I go to post a message, IE gives me the “Explorer encountered a problem and needs to close” error message. Most irritating, especially when trying to post. All other internet functions seem ok. Trying to update to IE 7.0 was a nightmare. It took 4 days to get the computer back to where it belongs. Finally decided to try Firefox, at least I can post messages now.

Any ideas why IE 6.0 suddenly dislikes the forum, or at least posting to it?

I’ve noticed that too, AND sometimes when calling up a post it will hang mid transmission. If I hit “stop” and then resellect the link it comes up instantly??!?

I am certain it isn’t anyone’s end link local connection, or the software they are running. This is because Friday I was on a 10Mb direct connection to the internet (no ISP, well I guess I was the ISP) using InternetExplorer, yesterday when I posed I was at home on a 6Mb DSL using Firefox. No other web sites I went to were having performance problems at the same time.
