Anyone else having trouble posting photos?

When I try to post photos the “old fashioned” way, I don’t get photos, I get the following: The image shows up in the preview window, but not after I hit post Is there new coding for adding photos? Later, K

Kevin,
I didn’t have a problem posting a pic in the GR plans forum, using the command [ img ] pic.jpg [ / img ]
(no spaces, obviously)

Here is your photo using that command:

Testing, testing Nope–typed it in as I always have with the img tags, and what you see above in Phil’s post (the photo) is not what you see in mine.

And again, from a PC

Okay, it worked from our PC… Once more from the Mac. the above was entered as: [ img]http://mywebpages.comcast.net/kcstrong/trr/pics/TRR3/tenderjunk1.jpg[ /img] without the spaces. Evidently, when posting on the Mac, the interface is having troulbe reading line breaks in the preview, too, so everything follows one word after another. The text displays fine on the screen when posted, but when previewed, it looks like it’s all written without hitting the “return” key. Tried it on two different Macs, too–one running OS 10.3.9, the other running 10.4.6. I should add that the photos I tried to place on the Mac don’t display when viewing on a PC, but the photos placed on the PC display fine on the Mac. Curiously, my sig file displays properly. Hmm. Let me try:

Tom, You on a Mac or PC? Evidently, the trouble lies with the bracketed tags. I tried posting a link in another forum using the [ url] tags, but it did the same thing to the link. Ugh!! Later, K

K, the “new” forum is the econo package unfortunatly, someone forgot that typing code to do things went out of fashion in the 90’s

Its the one big F up on this new forum format…it doesnt have the image icon like the old format had so I have to relive my hated DOS days and now remember to type the stupid code to get a pic posted.

Come on K, you know you want to come to the PC world and experience, unexplainable lockups, work destroying crashes, and unpredictable reboots [banghead]

I use a PC.

I think the forum software is sometimes displaying HTML instead of generating it. Notice my signature.

Kevin, it looks like something’s wrong with the software on your Mac (browser, perhaps?).

The code that appeared when you tried to post a photo is not correct HTML. It should not have the “/” character before the closing “>”. In other words, it should look like this:

Notice that last “>” – there’s where your problem lies. Now, that code is being produced by the forum software from it’s own (lame-o) tag “[img]”. If you have entered the same tags from a PC and a Mac and the results were different, then there’s clearly something on the Mac that makes the difference. What is that thing? I’m sure I don’t know.

If you can try a different browser on the Mac, that should answer the question about whether the browser is to blame. If both browsers produce the same bad code, then it could be a plugin (Java comes to mind).

Hope that helps.

Vance

Well, I’d like to try posting pics too.

I hate to say anything, but the time zone selection in the ‘profile’ area is off by an hour. I set mine to Tokyo time and it is fast by an hour. This post was posted at about 7.34a.m.

Don’t tell me that this lovely new software cant cope with daylight saving? Is this the twilight zone? do-di-do-doo, do-di-do-doo…

Alright, since we are talking about posting photos, where did those little pics in the “left coloum” come from? and how are they posted? or did I miss the instruction manual completly?

One more question. What is an “Avatar???”

whoooopppssss! when I tried to post this edit, I got a warning that this site and page no longer exist???

Vance,

It’s the computer/browser/whatever??? that’s changing the code. I’m typing it in as I always have with the square brackets. The software (?) is changing them to the “<” etc. when it displays the message. It happens on both my Macs using Safari and IE (two different versions of Safari, and IE 5.2 for Mac). When I go in to edit the message, the regular square brackets “[xxx]” appear as I typed them, not as they appear in the posted message.

I’m noticing also, that as I type this on a PC, when I hit the “return” key, it jumps down two lines instead of one. When I hit hte “return” key at home, it only jumps down one line. Have no idea what that means, just an observation.

Testing from a PC at work, copying a message I typed on the Mac at home… Direct copy from the edit window:

Let’s see if this works…

Posted fine, though none of my carriage returns came through. (Could be related to the double-space “return” thing.) Guess I’ll just “edit” my posts daily from my PC at work to get the images to display correctly until this issue gets resolved. It worked on the 10th, it should work on the 14th too!

The answer to your first question is your second question. The Avatar is the mini-picture in the left-side column. In the ‘profile’ page you can upload a picture from you computer or off the web. This is your signature/image and is also a good way to show us a bit more about who post what.

I tried this function for the first time a few days ago, no problem.

I run Microsoft Internet Explorer and this is what I get. Looks similar to what others have experienced.

Regards,

Bill C.

I just put your url in img tags like I always did.

Matt;

Thanks, guess I should have asked the grand kid, that way would not have made a public booboo.
