Anyone ever heard of this magazine?

I got my Walthers sale catalogue last week and it had one of those trial subscription cards for a magazine called Model Railroad News. Does anyone here read this magazine, and is it worth subscribing to? What kind of articles do they have? How much does a one-year subscription cost?
Just curious what you think before I use a stamp to mail the card off.

I don’t have a subscription but my buddy does. It is geared towards the “model railroad professional” and Focuses mainly on new products and stuff happening within the industry. Pretty brutal product reviews sometimes…The type certain other, larger circulation magazines are afraid (or too kind ) to do…I have always found it interesting to read but was never excited enough to buy it…

I do subscribe to it. It not only has news and reviews, it has columns on such things as DCC and how things operate, giving explanations on for example, how a diesel locomotive works. I find it a nice change of pace from MR.

Yes, I subscribe and find it very interesting and enjoyable to read.
It’s only $2.95 an issue. I can’t remember what the yearly subscription cost is.
By all means send in the card for a trial run. If I remember right, I believe they offer you 3 issues at no obligation and I mean no obligation. You’ll get your issues and then at a later date a card to ask whether you want to continue.
I think you will like it. I took an issue to my operating group to look at and now I think 3 or 4 of them also subscribe.
It’s a slick publication with many nice color photos of their equipment reviews.

They give out a free copy at the Spring train show here. I really like it, I keep thinking about sending in the card and getting a subscription. Their reviews are always VERY in-depth and detaled. And lots of new product listings. I think it’s worth the price.

I just started getting it, and I think it’s great!

I subscribe. It is definitly worth the $25 or thats how much I think it is. It has all kinds ofthings that would really help you out.

Matt

Well, it sounds like it’s worth the 37 cents to send the card off and check it out. Thanks for the info!

I agree that it’s worth it. Provides more in depth reviews. Had quite a spread on the MRC Prodigy Advance that I found very helpful.
Enjoy

My yearly subscription comes up for renewal next month and I’ll defintely “go for it.” There may be articles on O, S, G, etc. gauges but what the heck…“the more the merrier.” Excellent info. and data on DCC (John Sipple). Well worth the price.

I recently found this magazine too. It is quite different thatn Model Railroader. It covers new products and some tips. Their DCC column is a big plus. They are making DCC alot easier for me. I got the free issues then subscribed. An extra source never hurts.

If you’re new i would recommend having a subscription to model railroader first and then maybe the model railroad news. A member of our club gets that magazine and it is only reviews and industry news. As for actual modelling you’ll learn nothing. But the magazine does not claim to provide that and it does a very good job with the news and reviews but don’t think of it as an alternative to MR but rather as a suplement.

Yes I heard of it through their site. They offer a free trial subscription for three issues. I took them up on that and received my first copy in the mail. I was very impressed with the contents. It rewiews in depth most new products including O scale narrow gauge and gives some information on modeling. I am seriously thinking of subscribing to it when my trial subscription expires.
