I admit $2,600 is pricey, but I was told all 18 have been spoken for.
They are made in HO also for a discount prices of about $750.
Yeah. I’m gettin’ 2 of 'em in case I break one (rolls eyes).[:D]
Jeff
BWA-HAAAAHHH! Do they come with a Cheney Caboose?
Tom
I’ve never understood the whole “commemorative” loco thing, regardless of what’s being commemorated. So I feel absolutely zero need for this loco… Maybe less. No dis to Mr. Bush, whom I rather respect… Just think it’s no more or less silly than an Elvis commemorative loco, or a John Lennon “imagine” psychedelic loco, or a Britney Spears loco would be (the latter would have an “exposed midriff” design - streamline sheathing, but only down to its belly-button…).
Heck, I’d have more interest in a “Bill Clinton’s Party-Time Express.” Something like that could at least generate an interesting rationale for the prototype. …Plus think of the challenge in modeling a 1:87 blue dress… hanging in the “lounge” car, of course (evil grin).
I wouldn’t be caught dead with one for even a dime!
I’d like one, but they’re awful pricey. I just hope they don’t do any democrat presidents[xx(][tdn].
Well I am going to be the minority. I just ordered and paid $450 towards one from CMT and the total price is $756 for the HO unit. I just really wanted one. There are only 130 made of them too. Itw as a choice that one or the regular UP SD70ACe unit.
The big difference is that this is a model of a Union Pacific prototype. The man served four years as the President and led us to a victory in the first Gulf war. I think that is deserving of something. It still cracks me up how many people think this is for our current President.
Yeah, and don’t forget about the cigar…ha ha!! I seen the Bush 41 in the pics in the Model Railroader Magazine. Are you all serious that they cost that much?? Why? Isn’t it just like any other loco with a special paint sceme on it’s plastic shell??
The older Bush did do a lot. But not enough to have his name put onto a brass Overland model. That would be like making a PITTSBURGH STEELERS EDITION.. Now that would be a real joke.[:D]
Agian, Union Pacific is the one that decided his name should be on the side of a locomotive. And they seem to be selling pretty well, so Overland done right!!
And GO STEELERS!!!
I was referring to the Overland model that sells for $2,650 and the run is only going to be 18 units.
davidvd59 I wish you could get one for a dime, you could sell it to me for $1,000 and be $999.90 ahead and I’d be $1,650 ahead. Never turn down a deal like that.
The Spears idea may have some merit, given the right ditch light set up. The blue dress idea was totally disrespectful, I think it should be a Chinese loco, in red, of course.
Smitty,
I knew someone would say that. I HATE then to no end. But since my team didn’t make it, I DO want them to win. [:)] Our neighbors bought 2 tickets on Ebay for $10,500.00. Man you could buy a few OMI products with that cash.
Just goes to show you there is a SUCKER born every minute!!!
The wife and I are Packers fans, but we are supporting the Steelers because we have several friends that are fans. I feel like I should be going with the NFC though!!
why would you pay that much for a loco or gasoline for that matter. if we don’t pay it over time it will have to lower. people just don’t get it.
They are brass and are VERY limited production. They come in a fancy wooden display box and all that jazz.
So, would you buy one of these and weather it, and then run it around your layout? For that price, does it come with sound? Does GHWB himself deliver it? (Now THAT would be cool.) Does it come with Kadee’s, or did they go cheap and use plastic?

I don’t believe they come with sound or couplers at all. I saw one at Caboose Hobbies when I was up there last month, and they look really nice. I do think you are paying for the collectibility rather than the quality.
