hi, i’m in massachusetts and am looking to get back into railfaning for the 1st time in a few years. i used to follow guilford rail, and want to go back to them. so does anyone have any info on when is a good time/day of the week to check them out? it used to be weekday afternoons…then weekend mornings…now i have no idea. any help would be appreciated.
BTW, i’d be looking to be between maybe lowell and fitchburg.
I’m not all that knowledgeble on good railfanning spots on GRS, but the one spot that I’ve heard recommended is Ayer, Mass., at the MBTA station. The yard there is close to the MBTA commuter station, and you get switchers, road freights (including Bow NH coal trains with foreign power, usually NS with UPand BNSF mixed in), and MBTA runs. I’ve heard there is a regular Sunday morning railfan crowd there, but I sadly haven’t yet made it out there for that.
Try going to www.railpictures.net they have a large selection of Guilford photos and they all have the locations where the photos were taken and see if there are any spots in your neck of the woods[:)]
