Anyone heard of this road(M. K. 8c T. RY.)

Hello;

Anyone know what this road name is { M. K. 8c T. RY.} This is from a Microscale decal sheet 87-1016 for tank cars. Any help would be appreaciated.

Bill

Missouri Kansas & Texas, the M-K-T or just “the Katy”. Started in 1870, merged in the Union Pacific system in 1988.

Don’t use them if you model post 1923. The Missouri, Kansas & Texas became the Missouri-Kansas-
Texas and remained that until merger with Union Pacific.

Those would be for company service diesel fuel service and would only be used in company service. They are still used by UP. Some of the cars were painted black and some red.

Given the above-noted timeframe, along with the info from the original post, plus Dave’s comment, it seems rather strange that U.P. would use the MK&T Ry reporting marks rather than the more recent M-K-T. It’s my understanding that U.P. holds the rights to the names of their component roads, but do they extend back that far?

I’m modelling the '30s and it appears that at least one M-K-T boxcar made it to southern Ontario:

I looked up the decal set and it is for tank cars in the 1910-1950 era, so they are for very early cars.

I was referring to existing cars post 1980.
