I’m looking for people here in Oklahoma who would like to get together to run some trains! Anyone from Oklahoma around here?
Sorry Daylight… I spent 4 month at Fort Sill, OK during the Summer of '89… 104 degrees in the shade, and 5 days of thunderstorms was enough for me! [;)]
Where 'bouts you from?
It’s not that hot all the time! Just right now, haha. I’m in Oklahoma City. There used to be a TTOS group here in the city but it’s no longer together. I’m having a tough time finding many people who are O gauge fans around here. One of our weathermen is a huge O gauge fan but don’t think he’s too available for commoners like me.
Jason, my brother in law is from Oklahoma. He’s an Okie. [;)]
You are talking about Channel 4 Mike. He has been in my home, with his son, Both are big train fans. I used to have a lot of Lionel but I am selling it off preparing to move to Sun City AZ. Homes don’t have enough room out there for train layouts. They have a large community center which has a huge HO layout. Therefore, I am changing scales. TTOS still has one meet per year scheduled here in OKC area but outside of that, they are almost inactive. Most of the TTOS membership here is quite aged and are dying off. There is a lack of 3 rail presence in the local hobby shops, being Woodwards and the Whislte Stop. I know Woodwards got 40 Lionel 2007 V2 catalogs and was having a hard time giving them away. I have lived here almost 40 years and 30 years ago there was a TCA meet every other month etc. The people who worked hard to keep it active just passed on and none of the younger crowd, which was very few, stepped up to the plate. Back in the 1980s, there was a TTOS National Convention here at the Biltmore Hotel, then the Holiday Inn. Things have gone way down hill since then. Hope you find some running buddies.
Hi there Okie. I know about the 3 rail fans dying off. I volunteer at the Omniplex where I get to run their layout. Well, used to be their layout. I did get to meet one of their members who came through this past Wednesday but he’s just not able to come up and run them anymore because of health. I’m really sad there are very few, VERY FEW three rail fans around here. I’d love to start another club or become part of the TTOS. Anyway, sorry to hear your moving. Would have been nice to meet you and see your trains. BTW, anything good for sale?
Howdy. Not from OK. My last trip to OK was to Broken Arrow [Tulsa] to do the Bass Pro Shops Grand Opening. Welcome to the forum. Hope you stay around. [#welcome]
Hey Daylight,I’m Frisco steam fan.I’m not in Okie City but over in Springdale,Ar. like you I’m having a hard time finding 3 rail fans over here also.I got a small collection going on,and a small layout started but;wet weather put a clamp on extra spending for the layout.Guess I’ll have to weight for winter time now as 113#$%^ is way to hot now,HAHAHA.Just kidding my garage is heated and a/c,like I said railroad funs are in short suply.I tore my tunnle down last saturday wasn’t happy with it;used differn’t tech.to find one I like best.I deciced on the guaze and plaster of pairis tech;going to update some wiring and then I’ll get back to scenery.Well howdy doody and have a nice day.
Hey, I live in OKC! Ever ridden the Flyer. I have just recently taken my 55th trip on there!
Hey everyone, thanks for the check in’s. Actually, no I haven’t ridden the flyer but I think I’ve got my wife interested in riding it!!! Yeah, can you believe that?! Anyway, 55 trips? Is this a monthly commute or something? We’ll have to get together sometime for coffee or something. Where about’s in OKC are you?
You will probably think I’m lying, but I’m only 12.
From your good spelling and grammer, I don’t believe you! But if you are 12, I guess you probably don’t drink much coffee…
That’s True![(-D]
Did you get a chance to see UP844 when it was in town?
Sure did, took my little boy over to El Reno to see it. Got some good pics too. Did you go to the train show in Midwest City today? I really wanted to go but didn’t make it back to town in time. I bet it was a pretty good mix of O gauge and others. The folks that put it on do a similiar show in Bixby which is really nice!
NOPE from PA. here.

I had no idea there was any train shows except for the ones at Rose State and the OKC Fairgrounds.
I got to see it in Chickasha on the return trip. Wow, those driving wheels are huge. Hard to believe that tons of metal can actually move under it’s own power at 844’s top speed.
When is the Rose State show? Coming up soon? I’m glad you got to see 844. I grew up around 4449 and loved every moment I got to go see her, climb on her, ride behind her, etc. Have you been to Grapevine Mills area in TX. to ride the steam train there?
The Rose State was back in Sept. No but I got to see the train twice in the Stockyards.
